Game Cam problems

Game Cam problems - 10/05/15 12:42 AM

I put up my game cams Sep 12 and finally got to check them today. Between 3 there were only a few pics. One had zero and the other two had 2 or 3 deer then nothing. All 3 had good batteries and 2 have solar panels. They are all different models but all are Moultrie. Whatever Academy had when I went. This is 3rd or 4th season. I pulled them right after the season and kept them inside during off season. Have they just lived their lives and are done? Is it the heat? ...Frustrating

Possibly user error on the one that didn't take any pics. Set them up around your house for a few days and see if you have any pics of you moving around

It is possible. I have been known to make a mistake every once in a while. I don't think that was it though.
Good tip on the test around the house.

card issue?

I deleted my dcim folder and the cam did not like the card. It chose not to creat a new one. I created a blank folder named DCIM and then the camera started saving pics again.

Perhaps it is a card issue. They are older cards that have been used in a few different cameras. I cleared them so maybe that will help.
How long do you normally get our of a Moultrie camera? My hunting buddy and I were recently talking about how the first ones used 6 C batteries and were big and heavy but took great pictures and were reliable. The newer ones we use take poor quality pics, terrible night pics ans are really finicky.

I believe got my first m 80 in 2010. It has been rock solid until last year I watched 3 bucks in the pen for about 35 min. It didn't take a pic. I got plenty pics all season, but it didnt get a pic of the buck I killed either, which walked around the pen. I got a 2014 m 880 for christmas and set it up the last trip. About 3000 pictures later I have about 100 pics of animals. Its a beating, but better than no pics.

I'm betting on it being a card issue, they need to be formatted after you pull the pics, try to use the same card in the same camera Everytime, sounds dumb but I've found it works on a couple of my old cams. I use mainly primos truth cam 46hd now, but still have a couple old Moultrie cams that don't like different cards.

I have about 7 Moultrie cameras and have used them for deer population count and they have done their job...however..I also have had problems with the card readers on the cameras having no contact between camera and SD cards...had to throw them away and buy new ones. The cameras I have had for any length of time just dont work any more..they just dont hold up. The problem is ...does any camera work for any length of time? I have to renew cameras each year..about two per year to do the surveys. I got frustrated once and called Moultrie and they blame...SD cards ...rechargeable batteries...formatting cards from the computer instead of the camera..and so on.
So..I haven't had a camera to last much more than two years...then problems start to happen. Maybe there is a camera from other companies that will hold up better. There is a reason Moultrie warranties only for 1 year...when they start to extend that warranty then you might believe they will last longer...until then don't expect them to last longer that the warranty.
good luck

I had a moultrie out in west texas for 3 seasons and it worked fine. Brought it home after that 3rd season and set it up in my back yard. I had 3 pictures of deer after 3 months and just figured it was due to very little action.

Ended up getting a new camera for christmas and after setting it up had 200 pictures in 3 weeks time at the same location. Long story short the moutrie was working, but not as it should. I think over time the sun fades the screen and thus it takes fewer pictures as it gets less sensitive confused2

See if the camera has a format function for the card. I have StealthCams and I format my card to the camera. Not sure what difference it makes, but it makes me feel better.

Also, make sure that the card isn't locked. There's a little switch on the edge of the card. If that get's locked, it won't store any pics. Had that happen once last year. 2 weeks with no pics.
