I think my experiment with south. This morning when feeding the 2 Ibex in that trap where the spike is-was. There were 2 WT bucks, a WT doe and a Axis doe and 2 year old Axis buck. I am going to have to check the fence on the back side of that trap.

I agree, I think it is going to be an interesting year. I have not seen conditions this good, this early in sometime. An area of the state that I am really excited about is the Trans Pecos. The monsoon season is typically July and August which is a little late for antler development. I was on a ranch between Marfa and Alpine back in March and conditions could not have been better. Conditions were excellent around Sanderson and all the way back to Menard.

Re: Growing good - 07/01/15 02:52 PM

Saw one last night south of Santa Anna that looked a lot like the buck in the back. Definitely a good year for antler growth. And, hopefully, help the herd in general recover a bit from the drought. In a bout 4 years we should be seeing a pretty good batch of bucks coming out of this year's fawn crop around the state.

Actually I don't have any "culls". I always figure if a person takes an animal it must be a trophy to them.

Re: Growing good - 07/06/15 03:47 PM

Saw one group of Mills County bucks this weekend. Horns weren't really that impressive yet but the bodies on several of them were outstanding. Got some mature ones to look for this fall.

How much more will they grow at this point? I'd say they need to add about 30" to get to average for our mature deer.

On a couple of occasions I have returned home from a frustratingly unsuccessful hunting trip only to find a group of big bucks pooping in my yard.
