First morning that I have seen more than one in the last two weeks, then the sheep came and ran them off. I hate sheep.

Nothing yet, but I can hear something waking around the dry creek bed behind my blind. But there's too much brush between me and it. Can't tell if it's a deer.

Just had a group of maybe 30 little hogs running as fast as their little stubs legs would take them across field.

Young 6, a small doe, and a spike. All were moving like they were running late for something. Can't believe I havent heard a gunshot yet

Re: Sho is quiet out here.... - 11/01/14 01:49 PM

I've seen at least 10 so far one possible shooter but he was chasing a doe around so I didn't get a great look at him to tell for sure. They were moving late it was almost 8 before anything showed and I've got to leave in a few minutes for my daughters basketball game. Who ever planned to have kids basketball games on opening morning needs their butt kicked at least my girls game is at 10 my cousin is coaching his 4 year olds team and their game was at 8 so he didn't even get to go this morning.

The deer on my lease in Hardin County generally didn't show up until 8-8:30 during bow season!!! So hang in there guys!!!

Re: Sho is quiet out here.... - 11/02/14 01:48 AM

This was the quietest opening day I seen in many, many, years. There were maybe three shots that I can call as being nearby, just one shot way off in the distance this evening. Not much shooting at all. I'm hunting in a county where a doe can be taken for the first 16 days of the season, last year the gun shots went on throughout the day.

The bucks moved great for me this morning and I would think they did around me. I only heard one shot all morning and I sat till after 9. This afternoon it was very windy and slow, again I only heard one shot.

Strange opening day here in Anderson County. Didn't see a single doe today. I saw six different bucks this evening, all young, no shooters and wife saw two different bucks this morning, no does for her either. First opening day with no does seen........kinda strange to me. All bucks I saw this evening were together, no rutting activity noticeable among them.

4 this morning a long way off and two this evening. Not moving the way I would have expected after this front moved through.

Heard 7 shots this morning in Bastrop County compared to about 12 last year. Saw absolutely nothing except a doe that was bedded down less than 100 feet from my camper when I walked back to grab lunch. Been throwing corn for 3 months but nothing is hitting my feeders this year. Looks like yellow snow under my feeders but no takers. Also have a beautiful 2 acres of winter wheat that is about 6-8 inches tall and the deer are even avoiding that. Everything is just too green and the acorns are super thick. Even the hogs have vanished. The last 3 years I would have 20-30 hogs hitting my feeders every night. This year I have one lone hog that shows up maybe once a week. I have 3 game cam out and getting about 1/4 the pics I usually do. When they do show up it is midnight to 4AM or the random doe or small 4-point showing up around noon or so. I was completely skunked during bow season (which is when I usually fill the freezer) and rifle season is looking pretty grim right now. Hope others are doing better than I did.

Re: Sho is quiet out here.... - 11/02/14 12:58 PM

After sitting in blind for most of the day I tagged two does last night. Had about 9 come out just before dark. Waited as long as I could to see if Mr. Buck was around. Last year when I let a doe walk I didn't see another deer until middle of December! I was running scary low on meat and this will be the last time I can hunt for a few weeks so I'm pretty happy. Other hunters on lease didn't see any deer, just hogs. This is the first year I didn't put corn in feeder due to only feeding hogs. I hand threw corn Friday morning and they were all over it! And no hogs! My evil plan worked!!

Re: Sho is quiet out here.... - 11/02/14 01:04 PM

Some yahoo shot about 50 shotgun rounds yesterday morning relatively close to where I was. And then another yahoo shot about 30 rifle rounds and 20 .22 rounds yesterday evening at 6:00. Also pretty close. I had to sight a rifle in yesterday between hunts. But I did it at 11:00 so as not to be shooing while people were hunting.

Re: Sho is quiet out here.... - 11/02/14 01:54 PM

I had a great opening morning. Saw the big buck (9 point) but didn't shoot him. This morning, due to hangover, I didn't hunt. The big buck was in my front yard/pasture chasing the girls all over. It seems that I can find every deer but the cull buck I'm looking for.
