Cams with bad triggers...

I'm tired of cams that don't take pics. I'll check my cams periodically, and they're loaded up; so it would seem that they're working fine. But then I've hunted those stands, had deer come in, checked the cam after the hunt, and it never got a pic.

So naturally I wonder how many pics they've been missing over the months...

So which cams have the best triggers? And don't say cuddebacks, because that's what I'm complaining about...

Some of the camera review sites only rate the gadgets and options that the cameras have, or they only have ratings of the cameras that they sell.

Never had a cam that got pics of every single deer that passed. I've seen the same results as you out of several different brands. Remember that if you do find a cam with a super sensitive trigger then you're going to have 1000's of pics of the grass moving with every breeze.

I don't put lots of faith in cams anymore. I was running several and checking weekly. I really tried to determine what I had deer wise through trail cams. Lots of work with poor results.

How long is your delay? What height are you setting it at? What are you centering on with the trigger?

30 sec, 3-4', right underneath the feeder.

Put 2 cams on the same feeder to take pics at one minute interval. They will usually disagree quite a bit.

We were just discussing this problem last weekend. Our feeders are throwing, but there is no corn on the ground when we pull up to feeder. We know that something is eating the corn, but no pictures to show for it. It has to be the insensitivity of the triggers. There is quite a balancing act on cameras to get pictures of most of the deer versus getting pictures of all of the results of the wind.

I run into the same issue. I run a 45 sec delay at 36" height with camera. I have my camera level to shoot out into the pen to left of corn feeder and protein feeder. Protein is closer to camera.
For me it seems like on the mornings with heavy due and cooler temps I get fewer pics than I do on very low humidity no matter what the temps are. This morning I know I had deer in or around that pen, but I could not see the pen or feeders from my blind. I only had 4-5 pics taken this morning. I am thinking that he heavy dew on the sensor lens is not letting or changing the sensor. The Bushnell cams seem to be worse than the SpyPoint. The Primos 35 Truth cam takes pics no matter what the weather is like. I know the old cams used heat in motion type sensors(passive I think they called them). Not sure what the cams use today.

All the above problems will be solved with a Reconyx camera. I have 12 on feeder pens that take 1,500 or so pics a month each. I have 0 false readings. I have compared side by side with other brands in the past. The runner up is the Browning Strike Force believe it or not, those are the best cams IMO for the money at under $150.

Guess we have been lucky. Have used Wild Game Innovation cams for several years. First two out of three, finally died after five yrs of service. Bought a couple new higher quality ones this year. Also bought a stealth cam on sale for a back up. Put all three new ones out when filled feeders on 13th of September,( I know, was late, but first chance we got), checked 11th of October. WG were set on one minute delay and both had 1200+ pics, Stealth was set at 30 second delay and unfortunately got set to 3 shot burst, and filled up 4 mg sd card at 5110 pics, my fault not cameras. Just saying, theses are $100 cams and ones by same company before were even cheaper but so far performing well for us.

I'm not saying that my cams aren't taking any pics at all. I'm saying that they're missing a bunch of pics, a deer will come right in and it will never take a pic.
