Corn...just plain ol' everyday, ordinary deer corn. That's it. That's all you need.

All that other crap is good for is catching hunters and their money. Don't fall for it.

i disagree, corn is not always king. well, not in my area anyway.

and i've done extremely scientific experiments testing this theory.

Re: Deer attractant? - 08/15/14 08:19 PM

I agree corn is King... BUT..... just my own 2 cents out my lease is out NW of San Antonio the acorns have been plentiful for 2 years so the deer and blackbuck havent been hitting the feeder. So I went to the hardware store in thinking maybe I could find some kind of attractant that had acorn smell to it. I found something called Acorn Rage (has a hog on the label LOL). I kinda laughed and thought this is stupid but what the heck. First time I used I walked out to the stand put the gun the stand walked out and poured it behind the deer feeder. Walked back turned my ipad on propped my feet up cracked open my Adult Beverage and before I could log on with my password. 6 Blackbuck walked up to rage. Dead BB shortly thereafter. Used it a few other times with success. 2 8 points and 2 other bb.... The Axis could care less about it.

corn turned into a repellant for 3 months, deer cocaine gave them googly eyes and made them chase all night and sleep all day, indian corn made them avoid bow set-ups, buck crack - see deer cocaine, apple a day had them hiding looking for the dentist to show up, protein was listed as a PED and was banned during season.... sticks, dirt & white oaks leaves are what seemed to be the best attractants.

Yeh, but they are all taunting me.

My latest experiment is Max-e-glo. They love it now, but come sept 27 they will have no interest.

If you can find Buck Crack, buy as much as you can. If you can't get ahold of any, spin Skittles out of your feeder.

Ok, ok.....I throw corn and have protein year round and use pancake syrup come season.

Thanks for recommendations guys I will look into a couple of them

Re: Deer attractant? - 08/18/14 03:21 PM

it's been a number of years ago, likely 8 or 9 years ... my local feed store got in "Trophy Rock" which is a natural mined mineral that they told me was new to them and they had heard good reviews. I decided to give it a try. It was a chunk about or slightly smaller than a football, so to test it I took a chisel to it to break it into smaller pieces (baseball or smaller) to test at various locations. I went to fill 5 feeders and pitched a chunk of this about 20-30 feet away from the feeders. A week later when I went back, these chunks were licked smooth, down to about the size of a golf ball (those I could find) and all the grass was beaten down where I had placed it from the deer licking & rolling it around. I bought another ~football sized chunk and broke in half, pitched out at two feeders, same thing, lasted a couple of weeks before the deer had licked it down to smithereens. It is now available at most Tractor Supply stores and most feed stores.

I might have to try some of the other recommendations / ideas too though.
