Red River County - 08/05/14 07:22 PM
so i'm hunting East Texas (Red River county) for the first time this year! our place is just northeast of Clarksville. what kind of deer can I expect to see out that way? i'm not expecting to see any booners but any insight from people who hunt that area would be appreciated!

I hunted that area about 2 years ago on my friends place. Very thick brush where we were at, saw some deer on camera but not much. Lots and lots of pigs though.
GUNS UP!!!

It's hit and miss, there are good deer there and in some places good numbers but a lot of hunters and pressure, we have had a few places up there and took some nice deer, still have a place at English over near Annona, lots of potential. Hunt hard and don't be surprised if they only hit feeders at night, find trails and hunt them, where is your place?

Use to hunt Annona, English, Clarkesville and Dekalb. Poachers are always an issue out that way. Our camp house actually had a couple bullet holes from guys spotlighting the clear cuts. There is some big deer out that way but be prepared to sit all day.

Best deer we had on camera last year. He's and older fellow with short tines but good mass.
This is west of Clarksville and nort of Detroit.

A friend of mine has a place near White rock, north of English, mostly blackland. He has a lot of deer, hogs, occasional turkey. Mostly open farmland with some thick honey locust stands. He's shot a couple of nice bucks out there.

We also had a place near White Rock, about 1100 acres, mostly CRP but had some cedar thickets on it. It was on 1158 just off of 114, killed some nice ones there and had some hosses on cameras.
