I would say he is a 4 yr old based of those pics. He is a lanky deer and those can be hard to age in the summertime. Some nice bucks in those pics. up

I'd say 4.5 but it looks like he's probably still growing. What a stud! Depending on your place and goals it would be neat to see what he does at 6.5

Take out that big 8 that is at the feeder with him and go for the main target next year. I think the 8 is a year older than the 11

Why ask for peoples opinion and then get upset when it is not what you wanted to hear? I saw you do this on another website with the same deer.

Easy killer. You might need to understand the difference between upset and joking. Don't be so uptight lol.. I want to hear everyone's opinion including yours but how do you get maybe 130? And trust me I didn't get upset over your comment lol.. Life's to short for someone I don't know to get upset about. smile thanks

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/03/14 10:17 PM

I saw the remark you made from someones guess of 120 so I figured I would add 10" and see if that changed anything roflmao

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/03/14 10:19 PM

I was torn between 3 1/2 and 41/2 last year. This deer is killing me trying to identify his age. We are trying to target our trophys at 5 1/2.

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/03/14 10:22 PM

They can be tricky to age in the summer for sure. The only way to be sure is rifle moose

Got plenty of time to tell. And with the help of sites like this and others we will surely get an age on this bad boy.

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/03/14 10:39 PM

I don't see him getting anywhere near 145.

Post up what measurements you are using to get. 145".

Looks like a 4 yr old to me.

that deer looks no more the 4 and i am going to guess 137 +/-5" i would let him go a while, and shoot that 7/8 with just his head sticking out of the brush as a management

Ya we might let him go 1 more year to just see what happens. We got plenty of mature deer to take. Management wise.

3.5 brows
7.5 2s
8.5 3s
6 4s
1.5 5s
21.5 beams
29 mass
16.5 width

142.5is what I am getting now..

Stexasranchman I do have a deer that will fit your needs. I'm guessing 5 1/2 and 110 on the dot. C'mon down..

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/03/14 11:17 PM

I would score him at 150+/- for this season and put him at the 4 year old age. He is still in velvet and has not bulked up yet so it is a bit difficult to say for sure. He didn't gain a whole lot of tine length from last season, but he did gross some mass and muscle tone. Nice buck. If you are lucky enough to hold him, let us know what he did score.

I guessed a score of 138 more or less when you first posted pics of him. He looks to still have lots of growth left.

Hell be pushing 140 IMO. Itll depend on if his tines shoot up anymore. He's lacking tine length now. Beautiful buck. Other buck is older.

The pics from this year make me want to say 4, but that pic from '13 looks like a 2 year old all day to me.

Shot a somewhat similar 12 a couple years ago that scored 142. I think your in the right neighborhood score wise.

You're used to seeing bigger bodies then. No way that deer makes 150".

Just my opinion, that's all. A buck with 4" G1's, 10" G2's, 10 " G3's, 4" G4's, average MASS, 16-17" spread will score 150". I believe this buck will measure up. I hope he gets that buck next year, although I think this buck has reached his potential, he will still score high 150's in the 2015 season.

You are not used to Texas size deer. For that deer to have 10" 2's and 3's he would have to have 10" ears. Most Texas deer ears will range from 5"-8" depending on what area of the state that deer is standing in. Live weights on mature bucks can range from 100 lbs up to 250 lbs depending on the region. With a 92" frame he would have to 58" to tines to get to 150. He won't have that tine length this year. As far as potential he could be his best at 6 or 7 yrs old depending on rainfall and other factors. 2cents

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/05/14 03:16 AM

Nice buck. I came up with same score as O.P. Appears to be 4.5 y.o. this year.

RG1 3
RG2 9
RG3 9.5
RG4 7
RG5 1
LG1 4
LG2 9
LG3 9.5
LG4 7
Spread 16.5
Mass total 29
Beam total 38
I think he may end up in the mid/upper 130s once out of velvet...as Navasot said.

Your score adds to 142.5 inches, so you and I are within 7.5 inches of the same score. I put +/-, but I must be way off on my score of 150". Everyone else must be right, I cant be right, I am from VT.

I think sub-140, but just barely. However, he might be upper 130s.

Don't worry about bursting bubbles I asked for opinions wink I believe some deer are way harder to judge than others where some people might can judge one deer better than others can and every specific deer is different. I don't care who you are someone is gonna mis age and be off score by a drastic amount some time or another. And I could be way off on this deer. All I know is we are letting him go to see what is in store for the future. Once again thanks for everyone's post. I will be updating pics throughout velvet stages to see the growth and get the opinions on this deer. Will be a fun ride. And more bruisers to come.

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/06/14 01:15 PM

He doesn't have that blocky look of a really old deer and from the hard antler photo from 2013 (straight back no pot belly, shoulders not massive and the face looks tight) I'd guess 3 1/2 in 2013 and 4 1/2 this year. He looks like he has not peaked. If this was a high fence or an area I could completely control I'd say he is going to grow bigger and I'd let him grow. If it's low fence/free range he'd be hard to pass up. Pretty Deer

Our place is low fence and deer def take advantage of it. Roamers. But we are gonna let him go and see if he blows up next year. No telling what he will turn into with good rains. Gonna keep our fingers crossed and pray he makes it to next year.

Looking similiar in pictures has nothing to do with what both deer will end up scoring. Pictures can be taken at an angle that makes a deer looking different that what he really looks like in person or on the ground. Judging body size from a picture can be very difficult if you have no knowledge the what the actual deer on that ranch weigh at various ages. Body mass makes a huge difference in trying to field judge a deer from a picture.

Re: Age and score guesses.. Thanks - 08/07/14 07:15 PM

I would put him at 4.5, 135. It doesn't look like he's going to put on enough tine length to get out of the 130s.
