Help with ants all over tripod

Help with ants all over tripod - 07/24/14 04:27 PM

I went to fill my feeders this past Sunday. I have a 10 foot tripod that I wedged in behind two tall trees for cover, about 30 yards from my feeder pen for bow season. I started to climb it to take a look around and thankfully noticed before hand that ants had made the entire stand their colony. I mean it was covered and they were inside the tubing with eggs and everything.

What should I use to get rid of them? I don't want a foreign scent all over the stand. Should I just let it be and hope they eventually move on?

Thanks in advance.

I think I would use whatever I could to kill them, the smell would go away after a few days. Still a long time out.

same exact thing happened to me last weekend, except i was intending to move it. i ended up dragging it away with the 4 wheeler and am going to have to take the legs apart and clean them out. Once they are gone, i will take it back to the new location.

Just spread some ant killer granules around all the legs. They will all be dead when you come back and it puts out a lot less smell than the sprays.

Yep - a little bit Amdro is your friend for this.

Use Diatomaceous Earth if you are worried out scent, which I would be especially if you're bow hunting. You will have to repeat after it rains. It's all natural and the stuff works in my flower beds & gardens anyway. I would put down a heavy dusting of it on all 3 legs and the ground around all three legs especially..and also dust the ant trails. No real scent, no poison, and it does work. You can find at most feed stores.

This is why I always put down bug granules in the spring around my blinds. I also spray them with Demon WP twice in the summer. Another great product out there is Sawyer Permethrin. It is very low odor and what I spray my early season hunting clothes with and pop up blinds.

Just how long do you believe that scent will hang around?

Napalm. You can never be too thorough with fire ants. Think about this just before you climb the tripod just before daybreak. Just wait till the bugler ant sounds off !

Amdro will smoke them. If you can get your hands on some fipronil even better. It's in top choice and in some bags of over and out

Wheel bearing grease around the bottom of the legs.

If you know someone in the pest control business, ask them to mix you up a spray bottle of Termindor.

This. If it's fire ants use Amdro instead. Lots of Amdro.
