Opening Day Firearm And Ammo Roll Call

Opening Day Firearm And Ammo Roll Call - 10/31/13 04:43 AM

So what will you be carrying into the woods on Saturday morning, and why?

I've decided to go with my first deer rifle, a Remington ADL .270 and Remington Core Lokt, 130 gr ammo. Both have been good and depenable, at least to me.

Re: Opening Day Firearm And Ammo Roll Call - 10/31/13 04:51 AM

If I hunt the stand I plan to with no shots over about 300yds then I'm taking the WBY Accumark 257roy shooting 100gr hornady spire points.

If I decide at the last minute I need to stick to the open field for bucks cruising then I'll take a Remington 700 XCR I in 270wsm shooting 140gr Accubonds.

If my wife oversleeps or for some reason can't go then it'll be a Remington AWR II 300RUM shooting 180gr Accubonds.

Ruger 77 (tang safety) in .280 Rem loaded with 140 Rem Core Lokt 'cause they've never ever failed me. My back up is a Ruger MkII compact in .260 Rem loaded w/ 140 grain Core Lokt because, again, they've never let me down. My son will tote the ol Ruger Mk II in .257 Roberts loaded with a Hornady mini mag something blah blah I forget with a 117 gr bullet of some type. My hunting partners mostly shoot .270s with Winchester silver tip ballistic bullets and it seems we're always having to track their deer.... (though we don't shoot many. Deer lease has become more about the fire, a good peach cobbler and quality conversation (or peaceful peace and quiet) that it is about the shooting.

Ya can't go wrong with that! .270 and .280 is almost always an instant kill. Or 30 yards or less.

Re: Opening Day Firearm And Ammo Roll Call - 11/02/13 04:39 AM

I won't be hunting in the morning as I have to work in the am but am getting off early enough to get to the stand for the evening hunt. I will be taking my dad's ol .243 he bought at western auto years back...it was my first deer rifle that he handed down to me, it was the rifle I took my first deer with, also I haven't hunted with It in over two or three seasons so I figured I'd take it out of the safe this year and hunt with it. Well good luck to all and hunt safe everyone.
