Hunting in Diboll, TX - 03/21/13 03:42 AM

Just signed up to the forum, figured I ask and see what responses I get on how the hunting is in Diboll?
Going to look at a new lease there and wanted some input from people who've hunted the area.
Anything is appreciated!

What lease is it? I'm pretty familiar with the area and the hunting quality will largely depend on the lease and how it's been managed over the years.

I honestly dont know the lease name, i found it on the campbell timber company website. I talked to the guy and he said the past 3 years that lease and the 3 surrounding leases have not been taking anything under 110 inches. And they have a biologist that tells them how many does to take every year. Seems very well organized, which is what i am looking for.

I took a look at the ones on the site and considering the price per acre there looks to be only 2 of them over 1 hunter per 100 acres. There are some good deer in the area, but there's not a whole lot of money so folks have to pack folks onto a lease to keep the prices down so they don't just go hunt national forest. The downside is, if it goes MLD and there's a hunter for every 75-100 acres, there won't be enough buck permits but for 1/2-1/3 of the members. That lease with Mark Gilbert as the contact is a pretty decent lease though.

Welcome to the forum. There should be some good leases in that area. My sister lives there, I live in Jasper and hear some good stories about deer hunting up that way.

You should check out the Alabama Creek WMA just across the river from you. You can get a doe permit from the USF service and they have managed this 15000 acre section of land very well.

It has some true trophy animals in there, plus it has some of the best squirrel and timber wood duck hunting in Texas. The timber in some spots is over 100 years in age and they have control burned it so that an open grassland forest has developed.

Check it out, you might like what you see.
