trophy 6 point (long good read) - 01/15/13 11:09 PM
I am new to posting on the forum but have been anonymously enjoying the site for several years. If you are a father or a son I think this post will get a reaction out of you. In some short years past a vendor was in my office telling me about the greatest hunt of his life. Always being eager to hear about a client or vendors great experiance is one of the few joys of the job this time of year. I was all ears. He said that he had taken his young son (6 or 8 years of age) out for an evening hunt. Blind time was nothing new for this pair. The young man had been his faithful hunting partner for several years now. He said they sat in silence for an endless amount of time and just before last light. His son said that there was a deer approaching them from the opposite side of the blind. Sure enough momments later the deer came into view and bam! The father hit it right through the boiler room. He then tells me that it was a small six point and its the greatest trophy he'll ever own. Thinking to myself "I know this guy is an avid hunter. Seems a low bar to set." Of course I complimented his accomplishment, not wanting to be a deer snob. The vendor then asked me if I knew why this trophy was so special to him. I said no. Please fill me in. He said my son is blind. He has been since birth. Along with the love for his son he had never felt the presence god more than at that moment.

It show that there is more to hunting than just killing an animal.

That is a great story and I too had a similar story. Apologies up front for I don't know how to post pics. I have hunted for about 6 years growing up in New York. O never did take a deer, anf since I joined the military I have not hunted in 10 years. Well this was my first chance to deer hunt since 2002. I have had the opportunity to hunt with my 7 yo daughter. She loves being in the woods but I was not sure of her ability to process the act of shooting and processing a deer to eat. I had a friend in Hamilton county that agreed to let us take a doe on an eve hunt. Well in the stand we saw several does but I was not positive they were mature enough as I was nor familiar with Texas deer sizes. We watched the does walk away and my heart sunk as I knew we were reaching that point where my daughter was getting bored with watching and not shooting. Thankfully she understood the idea behind shooting a mature animal and not just shooting to shoot. Well we saw a nice 8 pt walk out just before dusk and I dent a text telling the land owner about the deer. I was able to estimate him to be 4 based on the stuff I learned on this very site. Well to mg suprise the owner had one policy on his land, is it bigger than anything you've ever shot? I told him I never shot a deer. He said take it and I started shaking profusely. Lined up the shot pulled the trigger and before I could see he deer react my daughter jumped in my arms and started yelling and crying she was so ecstatic. We got the deer a trophy in my book that I will never be able to beat nor would I try. As a veteran I was offered a chance to take a once in a lifetime buck after that and with relative ease the decision was easy, I said no. The experience was far better than the wall art. Now my daughter claims it is her deer and everytime we eat the meat she can't stop grinning. That I can never replicate, first deer ever with my daughter. If you all would like to see a pic pm me a # and ill send it to you. Hood you enjoy this as I've never really gotten a chance to share it like this, thank you.
