Dang you have to lock it?
Posted By: Captain Luke

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 11/19/12 09:44 PM

I lock it because we're down in South Texas. But, sometimes they break the locks to get inside, so it can be a bad thing. Spencercurtis, that is one nice blind!

Dug a hole about two feet deep, ran the pvc down to a bucket, drilled holes on the bottom and sides of the bucket, filled the bucket with some rocks, put the lid back on and covered it with dirt.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 11/29/12 11:38 PM

This little pop-up was awesome. (Bowie, Tx)

Here is a "looking out" view from a 10' elevated blind. (Bowie, Tx)

My buddy, Nick, scoping some doe in that same blind.

Here is a little makeshift blind. We just backed ourselves into a column of trees and put a nice camo backdrop behind us. Then we used a bunch of brush to cover our sides and used the camo mesh to drap in front of us for cover. Works really well. (Fairfield, Tx)

This is another blind on the same property as above. I never got a pic of the outside, but it's just a handmade tin ground blind.

My favorite yet least productive blind. Plan on moving and elevating it before next season.

Only hunted this thing twice.

My most productive stand. This was when I first put it up. Its faded out now, is covered at bit and has a gun rest.

I also hunt out of a pop up that I move around but don't have any pics.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 12/01/12 12:41 AM

This one will be up in Feb 2013. Will be painted soon.
Posted By: SATX

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 12/01/12 01:40 AM

I inherited this one when I moved onto my old lease.

Bought a 4x7x8 shipping crate for $60, bought some used tin for the roof for $25 and spent maybe another $15 on paint. Bought a camo Snuggy to make curtains out of. It was nice and roomy for a about $105 total.

Really liked this 13' tripod.

Then there was my bow hunting blind. Found some really nice boar targets at the gun show off 1604 N in San Antonio. Had to stick them on my foam shooting block for a little practise!

What I would worry about is what would happen if a buck starts sizing up the other buck he is looking at, and that other buck starts to look aggressive toward him and starts to charge?....Better be able to escape in a hurry!
Edit!...OK, I just noticed the downward tilt to the panels. up

I will be making a blind much like this one except it will be full size. You have to get the proper angle from top to bottom for this to work correctly. So it must have a downward angle to prevent sun glare and a deers reflection. It will only be able to mirror an image up to 10 feet away. I have a solution for that as well.

We just moved this blind to an area we call The Swamp so we had to elevate it a little.

We built the steps out of concrete blocks.

As soon as it gets wet enough down there I am going to screw/drive those anchors in a little deeper.

So this is "The Love Shack" it is an 8x8 with over 6ft ceiling. Has a couch, solar, cb radio, inverter, cigarette plug ins, flat screen TV for my N750, portable gas stove, sleeping bags, cot, air mattress, fan, lamp, and plenty of room. Equipped with Deer View Windows and they are the BOMB!

This is Javi Hideaway. It is a 4x8 with a shelf on the top and also has solar with an inverter, cell booster, cigarette plug in, and CB radio. Also has Deer View Windows

This is the newest blind and a 4x6. Swing windows and just your basic blind. No electronics yet.

This is one my buddy built and donated. 4x8 and is built like a house (literally, he is the son of a contractor lol). No electronics but very comfy and has the longest views on the ranch small window is out to 600+ yards and the front is about 900+yards

Rick, the blind was made by Texas Cedar Blinds. You go by his place and pick-up the base, 4 walls, and the roof. Blind has been really good. This would take your carpenter skills out of the equation!

They are temperature rated to -58, water proof insulated polyurethane with a kevlar safety plate and toe cap. Very good boots for hunting in the north in November/December.

It's been quite effective, a couple times deer stuck their noses through the windows. Covering is "Duck Blind" grass available from most sporting goods stores. Frame is 1/2" EMT electrical conduit with a wire cattle panel welded to it. Tarp keeps moisture out, grass is zip tied thru the tarp to the wire framework. Windows are expanded metal with delrin slides.

This was our favorite blind, I cannot count how many pigs, coyotes, bobcats and deer were shot from this one over at least 30 years. Then some fancy, city slicker came along and decided it was ugly and he tore it down. He was kicked off the lease. A lot of history and memories were made there.

Built this one a few years ago... 14 ft to the floor on top of a 40 foot bluff. I knocked it over one time trying to level it, and then it blew over. Its now concreted in the ground and only 12 ft to the floor. I swear you can see the curviture of the Earth when you are in this thing.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 06/16/14 11:32 PM

Just noticed this thread. This is a 4x6 stand that I built last year. Base is 5', using steel elevator brackets. Front window is plywood, sides and rear windows are Plexiglass. All hinge at the top and open out. Box itself is pre-primed OSB "Smart-siding." All walls and roof framing is 2"x2" on 24" centers. The floor is 2x4" on 12" centers. It's light enough that two strong people can tilt it and lift it. It takes four people to actually lift it and carry it. There are electric conduit brackets on the sides that allow a pipe to be used to lift from each corner and carry. It's like a palanquin, just a little bit heavier. That allowed it to be carried in, when the trail wasn't passable for a vehicle.

I have a PDF file with the plans, instructions, and photos if anyone is interested. I will email the plans if you PM me with your email address.

Next month will be insulation, paneling, shelves, etc, and fresh paint on the trim once we use foam and caulk on the trim.

I built it modular so I could take it apart and move it if necessary, but I'm really hoping I never have to do that. smile

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 09/18/14 03:56 PM

My second attempt at a homemade blind turned out well considering the budget. I utilized used corporate sign boards made with 1/2" Marine Grade Plywood that cost me $5 each. Framed with 1'X1' lumber and 1" insulation from Home Depot. I had a stainless roof made so I won't have to deal with roof overhang during transportation. Placed on top of a 14' tower I paid $183 for including extra metal to reinforce a few spots. Then splurged and bought a Stairway and Porch from Westex Steel for $329! The hardest part was installing the porch, only because I tried to do it manually with 3 men, but ended up renting a forklift to hold it up for installation. 1" rubber horse stall mat from Tractor Supply and Deerview windows and door and I'm ready for the season!

Here is our latest blind; all steel construction, fully insulated! Built with 5 foot legs that are extendable on site (approx. another 5 feet, use a tractor bucket to lift up on side at a time and install extensions). Its on runners, easy to drag around with a tractor/4x4. Loads onto a trailer easy and is about 13 feet tall on a trailer so can be hauled most anywhere!

Its eight foot by six and a half. This picture did not have the stairs or glass windows installed, but they are in now and she was just recently set up!

I'd paint it with a green base coat. Then cut a couple of small branches with leaves. Then hold the branches on the blind and spray paint them with brown, black etc spray paint. Makes a nice natural camo.

Sleeper off of a big rig. 7x6x7 completely aluminum and fiberglass. Rust and bug proof, a small heater will make it very warm. Plenty of room for the whole famdamily or a cot if staying overnight is your deal. I wish I had a couple more to make little sleeping quarters for the snorers at camp.

Here is our fabulous pallet blind. I was able to get some OSB (donated from a construction site) for the sides and roof, but the guts and frame are all pallets (donated from work). Also, we found some tin scraps for the roof in the landowners junk pile. A couple 2x4's and some camo burlap and it was good to go. No door on the back, just made a "curtain with the burlap. It gets cold in there, but its roomy and comfy. I think we spent about $70 on it in screws and OSB.

It'll probably only last a season or 2, but it was cheap. This first year on this lease, I needed to pinch a few pennies.

I think this one is the top one of all

Built up fallen oak tree all the way around.
Leafs of various colors to blend in with the natural surroundings
Assortment of branches to sit in the middle hiding from the wildlife on the other side .

Not much of a wind block but my face is to the exact North, so it travels downward to the creek below . where no deer come threw ..

That's one thing I really like about my blind: I can keep coming back to it year after year and the only maintenence I have to do is putting on a fresh coat of paint and maybe squeezing out a tube or two of black Dynaflex on the joints and it's good to go.

Bought two like this from the Riddler on THF - amazing blinds!!!!

This is the first one I ever built, with DeerView Windows:

Lot's of good times out of these stands we built. Bud is a painter and he provided
scaffolding. I had aireal construction material, the guy downs and anchors.
We lost a box to a twister once, but the frame remained. Found pieces of the box
a mile or so away.

I hunted from the same set up (tower was a couple feet shorter) all of last year and it worked great. I figured I'd have to just trash the pop up after the season, but it held up fine.

Acquired 2 other platforms, and plan on getting a couple more pop-ups to do the same thing.

The platforms arent light by any means, but the entire set up is definitely more mobile than if it had a full box blind on top.

It's a great and easy set up, especially for some one new to hunting, or if you are just getting on a new place and not 100% on blind placement yet.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 08/15/15 11:54 PM

I got tired of always having to repair wooden hunting blinds, and I'm too cheap to buy an expensive shop built blind. I wanted a blind on a trailer so it could be easily moved, and the commercial units that I've seen were $5k-$8k,you really can't explain how they get those prices for a blind.
So,I built one and have around $2k in it. It's 6'x7' and sets 4' off the ground. All metal exterior, insulated, plywood interior, upper storage shelf, shooting rail/shelf,carpeted floor,Deerview windows, etc. I have two deep cycle marine batteries and solar panels for electricity from an inverter, and a twin size mattress to sleep on inside it.The mattress just leans up against the wall when not in use,and I usually stay in it for 3 or 4 days at a time,it's pretty comfortable to stay in.

Thanks,The blind is 6' wide x 7' long and 6'6" tall in the center. A friend of mine had bought a couple electric traffic sign trailers at an auction, and sold me one that he wasn't going to use for anything. I just modified the existing trailer and built the blind frame on top of it. The trailer already had the corner swing-up jacks and rear outrigger jacks on it,and the tongue is also removeable.
This is what it looked like when I started it.

Ha! no freakin way!

We had two of these. We built the box as a modular unit. Four walls bolt together, as did the roof. The floor is what's used in most scaffolding as a platform, three panels laid side by side, hooked onto the bottom of the top pipe of the scaffold. Guyed down with steel strand used in aerial construction they were solid as a rock up on top.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 11/09/15 06:35 PM

Built this in 2012. 4x6x6, 125 yards to feeder. Eventually I'm gonna get it up off the ground. The big blind you see on the tree line was put up in '96 and the floor rotted out in '02. When it went up the tree line was about 50 yards back from where it is now. Next year I'm gonna use that stand to build a bow blind and tuck it back there in the thick stuff.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 11/10/15 04:52 PM

Hunted this one for a few years now. It is actually pretty comfortable. I have the floor elevated about 18" inside. You can see the line around the outside where I marked it. It was kind of tight in there Sunday morning when I got to it and discovered about a hundred wasps moved in. I came back that afternoon and took care of them...for now.

Thanks!!

I ordered these five blinds back in May and am super excited to hunt out of them this season!!! I was told it would be close, but they would be ready by October. They were delivered and in the field in less than 3 months!

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 08/12/16 10:54 AM

I do not wear camo ever...just dont see the need. I just wear jeans and shirts. Wearing total camo while hunting is just for the hunter being in uniform...lol. I bow hunt this way ...deer do not pay any attention to me unless down wind. I have been hunting in a red insulated coveralls and had a deer come up within three feet of me. Generally I dress to the weather conditions..hot, I dress light..cold, dress heavy. Camo does not make you invisible..however it does help cover and blend in.. I just have never seen the need and I have been hunting for 50 years.

good luck..wear what you like

When it's cold I will, just because all my cold weather stuff is camo. If it's not too cold, jeans and a dark colored shirt.

On the Camo thing in the blind. I wear Camo just in case I want to do some stalking. I also wear dark colors under for just setting in the blind, since the inside of the blind is dark green (black clothes usually). This is for both pop ups or stationary.

It is light enough to pick up over my head and move. Put a couple tarps under the burlap to keep most of the rain off. I'm hoping that leaves and grass stick to the burlap for extra concealment. We will see.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 09/14/16 02:32 AM

Not the most expensive blind but with a little work done to it, it's worked perfectly for me and my buddy. I am using the 4x8 Blynd hunting blind with their 5ft tower. I upgraded it to the full size door in the back, installed some shelves with gun holders and some corner drink holders, put another wood floor down inside and then I threw down some locking foam mats with a rug on top of it to quiet it down. I also put some foam pieces in between the tower platform and floor to quiet it down more. I got a sniper hog lights set up on the side and really like their light system. Very well made product and it lights up the feeder pretty good. I picked up two of these hunting blind chairs and they are pretty comfortable and quiet. My blind is 40 yards from my 300# feeder and 38 yards from my 100# tree hugger feeder behind it. My stuff is set up on my buddies land in Centerville and I have mobile wireless camera set ups so I can check my cameras from home. Gotta love technology!!!! I am hoping to upgrade to a wider blind by next season. I will either build one or buy a Ranch King on a trailer.

Installing the rug.

Thanks,Craig. Lots of love went into it. Also blood, sweat, tears, and a few choice curse words thrown in for good measure. Both of these new blinds have exceeded my expectations as far as game goes. See animals every sit....Thanks, Scott, for posting pics. When I get big I'm gonna learn how confused2 Y'all like the gold package? It's called the south Oak Cliff , " bro-ham package. Very nice blind. Hadn't seen water troughs placed at base of blinds before. Bringing them real close eh.

Especially songbirds and turkey. My dogs love to jump in while I'm filling feeders in the summer. The second stand is behind the house. I ran 150 feet of heavy, outdoor Romex. Space heater is gonna' feel good when the temps drop. I can nap without worrying about waking up dead.

I sat in one with the hole in the floor 20 feet up! Cost me my first good buck when I saw the hole and watched my wallet fall through it. Didn't trust the rest of the rotten wood and went to walking around. Buck walked literally under it 30 minutes later...

This is a 20 ft tower stand bought from Sportmans Guide we setup in a fresh clear cut on our property in ET. There is a feeder 137 yards away at the end of the road. Hope it holds up.

Man, bet you don't have much competition wanting to hunt in that tower blind! The ladder looks a little dicey, not for us old farts.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 10/17/18 05:07 PM

Its tied down in the center with a screw in anchor and steel cable and turn buckle. I was going to put some guys on the outside but the cable/anchor held so well I decided not to. Hope that wasn't a mistake. eek I checked it last weekend and it is still as tight as when I installed it.

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 10/17/18 06:15 PM

I would still buy wire it. It wouldn't take much to pull out. When it starts to go that will act like a fulcrum once it reaches a tipping point. Better safe than dead.

It’s ok to be jealous…I’m aware it’s a lot.
In all seriousness that truck has been parked about 100 yards from there for a long time anyway so they’re used to it. I hope it’s scent masks mine a bit

Re: Let's see your deer blinds/stands - 10/12/21 02:35 PM

Mine is pretty simple. 1" tubing wall frames covered with 1/8" thick sheets of PVC.
Makes it very easy to handle when setting it up and taking it down. Entire blind with the 5' stand doesn't weigh more than 400 lbs. One man can set it up and take it down but with 2 you can do it in under an hour.

blind is 4x5 and stand is 4x8 so I have a 3x4 porch with a full door to walk in and out of it.
