6.8 spc - 01/11/12 12:14 AM

So i have been reading about this 6.8 SPC round. Sounds like the perfect deer rifle cartridge out to 200 yards? Most of the power half of the recoil, and its a .270.

Used it on a muley doe last month. Did the job. Not my first choice as a hunting round, but have more faith in it than a .223 if I'm shooting an AR platform.

i've shot a blackbuck buck, a axis spike and axis doe, 150 class whitetail my dad injured bow hunting, and a couple whitetail does. oh and a 175lb boar at over 400yards and tons of predators with my 6.8spc... i like it quite a bit.

What kind of perfomance did you get with those shot? Did the bullets pass throught or leave goodd blood trails. Or did the animals drop right there? What was your shot placement. I'm thinking about buying or build a 6.8 & kinda want to get some info.

I dropped a large/heavy male aoudad at 300+ yards with my 6.8.
I used a SSA 115gr OTM round and the animal dropped to the ground before I had the sight on him for the second shoulder shot. It is a great caliber.

Re: 6.8 spc - 01/12/12 01:23 AM

i'm wondering, the 6.8 spc with a 110 grain bullet has about as much energy as a .22-250 does shooting a 55 grain bullet. less than a .243 at 200 yards.

How is this considered a viable deer size game cartridge?

just because its in a AR platform?

in a bolt gun, it would be considered marginal at best

I find stats that show the 6.8 at +\- 1300 lb/ft @ 200 yards and the .22-250 @ 1000 lb/ft @ 200 yards = +\- 30% increase .... Give or take a % point here or there?

Look at hornadys website. With a 110 grain they are identical

I have knocked down roughly 20 hogs with my 6.8SPC using the 110gr Hornady Match HP. It is an excellent ctg if you want to use the AR format. From the bench it is an honest 5/8" rifle. It's a 16" AR Performance barrel.
