i like AR's i think they are working great and letting young deer that most people would shoot grow another year or two. not everyone can afford to go hunt on a game ranch and get a big buck so in my opinion AR's are kind of helping out and giving us a chance to see and get a bigger buck

Seems to me that supporting AR's would be the liberal view.

* More government regulation.
* Imposing one group's will on the entire population.
And last but not least........
* A solution that is inherently flawed from the beginning.

Conservatism says;

Let's see, the minority is against AR's but they are speaking up and complaining about it and wanting to get their way even though the majority is okay with the new AR law. Now the "press" seems to be in favor of the minority. Hmmmm.

By the way, I was just joking around. Geez! I've killed big deer in East Texas before AR's and I'm killing them after AR's. Makes me no difference.

You have to understand that most anti-ar folks don't have access to a computer so their vote is not counted. Here in East Texas electricity is a luxury that most of us in-breeds can't afford. Dang sure can't afford no puter.

Exactly! Plus the fact that many East Texas hunters that do own a computer are probably too busy spending their valuable time in the woods trying to find deer to worry about sitting on the computer and voicing their opinions. wink

I must have missed all the whining that led up to them starting ARs. There sure seems to be a lot more now that they did it than there was by the pro AR people before hand.

Posted By: rifleman

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 04:52 AM

There was a ton of whining about neighbors shooting every deer that crossed the fence. I would try to figure out a way to keep the deer from crossing the fence if the deer meant that much to me and solve that problem.

Curly I dont know ya but the TTH dont worry about ar's. Most of that crap is high fenced. Personally I love ar's. They are not perfect but they do usually keep the babys alive. If you want meat shoot a doe. Does shooting a 1.5 yr old 4 pt make you feel like a great white hunter? Sorry but its not perfect , but it damn sure beats letting every idiot with a tag shoot everything that moves.

Then lower bag limits!!!

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:00 AM

Lower the bag limits on bucks . Hell yea! Almost seems like most of the folks that dont agree with ar's are from east tx. Go figure

Posted By: Seadog

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:08 AM

That's because we, at least in my County, has the narrow rack genetics!!! We were a 2 buck County before AR's so if you lowered the limit to 1 buck, you would have accomplished the same thing of saving younger bucks!!!

Posted By: BOONER

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:09 AM

Seadog can you explain to me why you would rather shoot a 4 or 6 pt for meat rather than a doe? Please explain because i dont understand!!!

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:11 AM

If you shoot a 4.5 year old deer with a 12.5" spread do you really think you would get a ticket?

Posted By: Seadog

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:18 AM

Right now in my County, AR's in the 3 years they have been implemented, has disrupted the balance of does to bucks!!! I have nothing against does for meat if I could have gotten a shot at one!!! Before AR's I was able to do just that!!! Since AR's, all I see is mature, 4.5 - 5.5 year olds that get a life time pass because of the genetics and unfortunately the hunters around do a real good job of filling their doe and spike tags!!! Personally, I shoot mature bucks!!! If they decided today to get rid of AR's and lowered the buck limit, they would also have to lower the doe limit to compensate for the damage AR's have already done in 3 years!!!

Would you want to take the chance?

Posted By: BOONER

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 08:30 AM

I know my game warden would not. So yall have a bunch of 12.5
inch mature bucks running around killing off all of your doe herd. Come on man!!! My county and your county are way different as we have minimal POACHING!!!! That would be where I would start instead of blaming it on AR's.

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 12:37 PM

It's funny, but I believe that I have learned a lot since I began hunting in the mid 80's. Back then, the deer used the moons gravitational pull as a clock. Spikes were always spikes. Doe were blesphemy to kill. Rattling only worked in Texas (no lie I have a book where that statement is published). Deer only moved before dad got hungry, and after he got his nap....haha. Deer research was something that was done after a blood trail was lost.

AR's might be the worst thing that has ever happened to hunters, I don't know. But I have read a s#!+ ton of information from people doing scientific research and reaching the same conclusion. Now, about AR's being the spawn of liberalism, please provide me proof of a liberal anybody that is weighing in on this subject, because I haven't found them. Out of curiosity, has anyone bothered to check the data to find out what the result has been or is it just easier to b#+@h? And you call yourself a conservative.

They upped the doe bag limits and gave us a spike as an extra deer. Us idiots can shoot more of what moves now. Carry on.

So you can have antlers and meat...both. Why would you care? Do you hunt with or near Seadog?

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 03:38 PM

That's an easy one. It's ingrained to almost every hunter from the start. Go to any daylease wood blind in the state and you see writings and carvings around every window - initials, date, and spike, 4ptr, 6ptr, 8ptr, etc... Nothing about does. Go to any deer camp and when someone asks did you see something? The reply is always how many doe but if you saw any bucks - you get a detailed listing of each one, yeah a 4 pointer, a small 6, two 8s, etc. When we start our little ones out many shoot does first, but it's the first BUCK that really matters to them and they will remember. Most hunters remember every buck they've ever shot - does, not so much.

Then there is the simple fact that in many countines in the state, on many leases - you can't shoot does whether because there is no season, only a short season, or a landowner that won't let you.

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 05:49 PM

What makes all of the AR lovers automatically assume that everyone can shoot doe for meat?

Not all counties have doe days. Not all parcels of land are large enough to get doe permits, even though an aggregate of that place and surrounding places might be well in excess of size to be eligible for several permits.

Not all places are the same. I think that statement speaks to both the whole "just shoot doe" argument, as well as not agreeing with AR laws as a whole.

As for my analogy on the AR law being a liberal thing.....It was mostly a joke. But if any true conservative thinks it over seriously, the joke should make some sense to them. Or does the AR law seem justified simply because you agree with it? If so, you might be more liberal minded than you think!

Re: Extra, extra, read all about it! - 12/01/11 05:52 PM

plus, not all places need to have does killed on them period.. anyone ever stopped to think that they would never see any bucks and yet fawns would appear the following year? (no cameron, it was not from immaculate conceptions) If you shoot a buck, the does are still going to get bred, if you shoot a doe and don't need to there went several generations of deer to build your herd up.

Great point rifleman! Apparently the only deer "some folks" really care to manage are bucks since they keep telling all the AR haters to shoot doe for meat. Bucks better learn how to have babies.
