Hunting next to idiot neighbors

Hunting next to idiot neighbors - 11/20/11 02:34 AM

Sitting in our most productive stand trying to bust some yotes tonight, and I don't see one single critter. During this time the neighbor to my left who is seperated from me by a large cliff and a big creek is shooting with what sounds like an automatic weapon then following up with a .22 then a .50 cal and doing this for hours. This is his right that is his land even though he is being a €*{ clown in my opinion. Then towards the end of his rampage at about sunset a huge explosion. This blast shuck my blind and knocked acorns out of the tree. Scared the you know what out of me. My brother texts me and is like what in the world was that and he is hunting about a mile east of me and my dad who is even further heard and felt it also. Then about 10 minutes later BOOM again followed up by more shots. Called the ranch foreman and he heard felt it across the road a coupleiles away on another pasture. Seeing if the game warden can do anything because target shooting is one thing but setting off explosions is another and if this was tannerite they had a truck load.

You must be hunting close to the border with Mexico!

gotta love binary exploding targets! as long as he is on his own land there is nothing you can do unless maybe there is a burn ban going on there. also 50 pounds is around $175, that could probably rattle the whole county. lol

I've seen what a pound of that stuff can do and at 100 yards it makes a thump. The distance to where I was at I got rattled from percussion. And I'm probably at the very least a half mile from this guy and 100' above him. I have to admit it was impressive. But during peak hunting it sucks. Out of this pasture we took 3 impressive deer one scoring 142 and this year a couple of good young 10's. I'm just starting to wonder if this has more to do with it than the yotes do.

Not sure why you think they are idiots? Sounds like they were having some fun. There has been many times my brother and I would get together and fire thousands of rounds down range through 20 different guns, including bump firing which sounds like full auto. Also have been involved with some very large tannerite explosions.

You said he was ddoing this all nigght but then said it was during peak hunting times? Not sure on that one. If I was you, Id talk to him and ask him for an invite to the party next time.

Peak hunting times==next few months?

Add: if that old boy can shoot that many 50 cals, he got money to waste. Try your best to get an invite just to watch.

I agree, this is something they should do before and after deer season! Being in the free country that we live in, people can do what they want on their own place but should be considerate of others. They probably don't hunt.

We had a friend who used to have to deal with a woman across the road playing a loud radio every morning during deer season to scare the deer off. Too bad a stray bullet didn't locate that radio! I would have called the GW, at least to go talk to her. Eventually she sold the place and moved, but her actions destroyed the poor man's deer hunting in that area.

We're did I say all night? All evening yes

Peak around here is last week of October to around thanksgiving.

The shooting goes on all the time on both sides of me and that is fine. I like to shoot and do so in the months when I'm not hunting or if I have to sight a gun in around lunch time once everyone is back at camp. And we shoot with some fun toys also. It is the timing that I find suspect and the explosions were huge to say the least.

And from the direction I think it has to be the same guy who will fly his helicopter a few feet above the tree tops also. If it is the same guy he also has pissed off a. Lot of his other neighbors and has an ongoing feud with one.

I'm all for having a good time but the explosion witch I'm sure was a sight to behold was a little much.

Sorry to tell you my friend but this is something we will always have to deal with . I've felt the same way , it's a little depressing when your all stoked and ready to watch and listen to every little sound going on around you , but it's a part of hunting .. The game warden will prob come investigate the neighbor but it is very hard to prove intention to scare of deer In season . He has the right to do as he pleases

I know and it just seems to have gotten worse in later years. That's why I havn't stepped foot on my place in rocksprings this season because I know it's going to be ww3 out there. Honestly I miss hunting Mexico and south Texas all you heard was the occasional cow or pump jack going or the engine of a boder patrol unit.

He has his own helicopter? Ok, this sounds like someone to make your new best friend, lol.

No matter where you hunt there's gonna be an idiot nearby.

Re: Hunting next to idiot neighbors - 11/20/11 05:46 PM

Sucks for you, but its his place. Try being a friend and maybe he will tone it down a little. If its was my land and someone asked me nicely I would probably accomadate them if it was a reasonable request. If he is just being an [censored] hole then there is not a lot you can do about that. Maybe he is pissed because ya'll are shooting young ten points.

If you miss Mexico why not go back there ? I've never heard a sound over there, in the last 3 years it has got real quite

Correction we did not shoot the young 10's, we got video of them. Last year we shot a nice buck that went 142 and a mangement 8 and decent 10. This year we have video of a couple of good young 10's and a 9. last year we had all kinds of video of good bucks that we let walk, although one was shot by another neighbor and was a heck of a buck for the area. Another year or two and he would of be a stud.

and from what i gather from the ranch owner we lease from this neighbor who has the arsenal is not a hunter and causes some problems all the time. i don't know first hand so that is not what i base my opinion on. my opinion is based on his explosions and not so much the gunfire. The deer usually recover pretty quick and in the hill country adjust to the heavy fire, i just have never dealt with explosions and what effect they have on deer movement.

as far as mexico goes it just ain't worth the hastle, my buddy owns a ranch down there and he goes all the time, but it's just a long drive and i like going to a ranch and not having to worry about making it back for any other reason than weather. still the pictures he emails out are mighty tempting.
