help me give southtexascracker a hard time

help me give southtexascracker a hard time - 11/14/11 08:54 PM

Southtexascracker, a poster on here and my bro-in-law, called me Saturday afternoon to describe what he was seeing feeding on a fed road at the ranch. A fully mature, 18-20 inch wide, main frame 7 point, with a 6-7 inch kicker (with the velvet still on it) coming straight off the back of his main beam. Cracker is a good field judge and he put the deer in the low 140s. I would post a pic of this deer on the ground, but HE LET IT WALK??? Not once, but twice. Cracker is about as selective as they come, but even he is now admitting he should have taken a shot. We've never seen this deer before or anything like it. It's a management deer on our place technically, but will certainly make one helluva unique trophy. Man up Cracker, time to give that old boy a dirt nap. Help me give him hell boys...

it happens.....somethimes you just can't make yourself pick up the gun and take him.....other times when you are certain, you end up dissappointed with the outcome. I've been on both ends, so I'm not gonna give anyone a hard time!! LoL!!! All in good fun though guys!! Comraderie, that's what it's all about!!

confused2 I don't know, after that biggun you shot last year I think I'd hold out too. About how old was this buck?

Re: help me give southtexascracker a hard time - 11/14/11 11:15 PM

I haven't seen him, but I think Cracker had him at 6.5+. I think he's gonna try to track him down again Thanksgiving weekend. Our management rules allow us to take a management buck and a trophy (if you're so inclined), so shooting this deer won't end the season.

Hah! I'm flattered someone took the time to make a post just about me.

I was posting a live hunt that evening, even though half of the thread dissappeared the next day, so I'm sure everyone who was paying attention already knows about it.

The deer movement was pretty insane on Saturday and I saw 3 mature deer none of us have gotten on cam, so I wasnt stoked about ending my hunt at 2:30 pm when I first saw the deer. Make no mistake, he is a marked man, if someone doesnt beat me to him. I would age the deer at 5.5 or 6.5, no more.

Grosvenor - where were you on Saturday when I was free-wheeling it with the run of the place? Tell us....

Uh, I checked my schedule and I am available on Thursday next week and I can head over and take him out and save your tag. I got just the spot on my wall for him peep

Re: help me give southtexascracker a hard time - 11/15/11 01:11 AM

That's ok stx. I got this.

You give the man permission to marry your sister, let him borrow your expensive bass fishing rods and reels, and put him on a near record class whitetail, and he repays you with public humiliation.

Fair question. I was pretending to pay attention to my family while checking my phone every 5 seconds for hunting updates from you and others.

Cracker, post that pic of the buck you tied up for him again. Remind us of how good a bro in law you are.

Last time I heard someone say "I'm a good person" was after they got pepper sprayed in jail as they were floppin around on the floor. Seems like people claim to be a "good person" only when they do somethin wrong. And passing that buck.... Well, you may need your veggies checked. Low T? confused2

Just kidding. Giving ya a hard time as suggested by ur BIL

Re: help me give southtexascracker a hard time - 11/15/11 09:27 PM

Was it something akin to the beer commercial, where the guy pulls a bass into the boat and it touches him, causing him to scream like a girl?

Re: help me give southtexascracker a hard time - 11/15/11 10:22 PM

I wish. It was more along the lines of falling off a 15 foot cliff into a lovely spring fed lake while trying to land a big bass...in front of a captive audience of good business contacts. Or should I say, former business contacts!

Fortunately, nothing was hurt other than my dignity and iphone.
