Wrongful hunting

Opening weekend in Noconna we have a place weve been at for 6 yrs. No One hunts the and land around us so we were able to manage and shoot the manage deer that we have been getting pictures of and watching the deer grow and noticed our bucks maturing from small to larger starting to see some 8 and better inwhich we have been able to leave for breeder bucks. The problem is is the ranch next to us the Lady that owns this property is Anti hunting and Anti gun she lives down south and has a ranch manager there taking care of the place. He decided to put up a feeder in the woods across from the area that Im set up in I could hear this feeder go off every morning and every evening this guys must have killed every thing that walked under his feeder he prolly killed 6-8 deer this weekend. Im so frustrated about this UGGHHHHH!!!! I bring my daughter out here to hunt shes only 11 yrs old; just to have someone screw things up for us. If Im able to get the name of the lady that owns the property I will be contacting her about this situation as well as contacting the Game Warden to let him know of this situation. Im an ethical hunter I believe in being respectful.

that sucks but it doesn't sound like he's doing anything illegal

Perhaps a civil, honest conversation with the guy is all it takes to get him to move his setup farther away from you.

I would try that approach first

Our county is only a four deer county not 6 or 8 deer.

can't see any legal or ethical issues from your statement. It sux but thats the game sometimes.

do you know he took 6 - 8 deer? if you do know that then were they all taken by him or others included? if you know for sure he did something illegal then call the GW.

I would definitely contact the game warden, or call the Game Thief poaching hotline. First, you need to log all of the times and dates of animals they have killed. Then you can look up the owner's name from the county property tax office or the central appraisal district. There are several property tax websites that you might be able to use. Depending on the county, you might be able to find your place on North Texas Council of Governments website, use their GIS maps, and click on a map of the property to get that type of info. If you can't find it online, go ask the county clerk to help you look it up.

If one person took 8 deer without LAMPS permits, that is illegal. If he is leasing the property out without a lease license, it's illegal. Keep in mind though, the ranch hands may have done this without the ranch manager knowing about it. Happens all the time on larger ranches.

If the landowner was anti-hunting, I really doubt she would instruct her ranch manager to kill every deer he sees.

They probably just started hunting this year.

If they're shooting all of "your" deer on their property, it sounds like you have a different kind of problem.

Do they grow any crops on their ranch?
Maybe they got tired of your deer eating all their crops & garden, and went out and got a LAMPS permit.

Maybe the ranch foreman is a bad shot and for every 2 shots, he only kills 1 deer. Just because someone is shooting does not mean that someone is hitting.

Nothing wrong with a guy getting on here to vent a little. Let's not get on his case too much.

If the ranch manager is breaking the law, then a call to the GW is in order. If he has a permit to kill those deer, then you will just have to live with it.

Makes me wonder how you know he is killing more deer than he has tags for.

If you are hanging next to the fence it's a wonder he even sees and deer with you watching every move he makes.

If it's him shooting, he might possibly be shooting hogs also if you have them, or he could be letting his friends hunt there and it's all legal.

You have to understand that unless he is shooting across your fenceline or intentionally harrassing you where you can't hunt, then he is within his rights and you have little to say about it.

The suggestion of talking to him is your best approach and without an attitude, and explain your concerns, but you still might not like the answer but as long as it's legal you have little room to complain.

No matter if the guy is managing or not doesn't he have to have explicit permission from the landowner to satisfy a GW anyway? I have written authorization even though we hunt on family land just for this reason. I would think he wouldnt have that kinda documentation..

How do you know he doesnt have permission?

Ive hunted pleanty of anti-hunting land owners land. They dont believe in hunting but love to take my money in exchange for hunting rights.

Keep in mind YOU dont own the deer and on a low fence ranch, there is nothing you can do. Unless you have proof, dont call the game warden on him every week. He can turn it on you as hunter harrassment

Heres something else. I could go to our lease and shoot 8 does this weekend and do it legally. We have LAMPS permits and do not have to use our tags. Maybe he has LAMPS or MLD tags

Im pretty sure with lamps you still use a tag. Our processor wouldnt except them with out tags off your license. MLD is different

Do you have hogs out there? Or coons? Did you even see a single deer he killed?

It's easy to let your imagination get away from you. I'd caution you to proceed delicately until you know for sure what's going on.

Youre all right I was just venting frustrations. its hard watching these deer grow and starting to become big. I was just concerned then we were advised by some other ranchers that she doesnt allow hunting much less likes guns.Im planning on moving my stand to the other side of the property where there is bird hunting only that way we can draw the deer in from that area. I think the guy got mad cause we cattle proofed our fence to kieep his cattle from comminonto our place and eating all our corn and this was a way for him to gwet back at us OH Well theres more land with more deer so be it....

Have you tried talking to him. Start off by saying something like "heard you shooting this morning did you get anything" maybe congratulate if he did and find out what he was doing????

That might do wonders for your relationship.
