Pop up blinds on new land

Pop up blinds on new land - 11/09/11 04:41 PM

Just got access to 80 acres in stephens county - good land but no blinds/feeders. Plenty of tracks though and saw several does from behind brush last week. For this season, do I just hunt from natural cover, or has anyone had luck with setting up a pop up blind and hunting from it that day, or a week or two later? I'll only be out there 3-4 more times this deer season. Thanks for any advice!

I put up a pop up blind the evening before the opening day of the youth season and my son shot a 10pt out of it the next morning. I brushed it in pretty good. We saw two bucks that morning and neither paid much attention to it.

As long as it is not just out in the open you should be alright to hunt out of it pretty quick.

Shoot, why did you need a blind with that much brush?

I would let it set a day or two if you don't brush it in good. After a couple days it becomes part of the landscape to them. Some places it doesn't bother them at all. You will have to see.
My experience is beyond 40 or 50 yards they don't care.

No worries on spooking them. Thursday, I put up my 4X6, & painted it, inside & out. Saturday at first light, I had a little 8 point walk within 50 yards downwind twice. He could have cared less!!!

I put one up on a friday evening during bow season and hutned it sunday morning. I had a mature 8 point within 10 feet of it several times. I would brush it in with cedar limbs if you have any, they provide excellent coverage and mask scent really well. The bugs don't like cedar very much either.

I hunt out of freestone county.I found the deer comming out of a different location as I expected. So I put a pop up in a alittle bundle of trees. No cover. Deer came within bow range. Looked but paid no care to it. I guess it just matters if thier stressed.

We put one Saturday around lunch time right out in the open with no brush cover what so ever with corn laid out for 100 yards on both sides. Saturday night we saw 7 does a 3 small bucks and they didn't know we were there...

My buddy put one up last year. The first morning it was up, he had a doe come in from a blind corner and start blowing like crazy. She did not like it one bit!

Some deer are just a - holes!
