I've found some sheds from larger bucks that had very little damage, but in the picture you can see the end of the left main beam and some of the kickers where worked over pretty good.

Seems the larger antlers are a bit tough for those little critters.

That rack is in really good shape for being out as long as it was and a good taxidermist wouldn't have too much trouble restoring it.

I don't know about that one having laid out in the East Texas humidity and rain. It looks kind of chalky and brittle already in those pics. Might be in better shape than it looks though.

Those antlers are in very good shape to have laid on the ground in East Texas long enough to have bleached out. The squirrels and rats are very hard on antlers. I have had very poor luck finding any shed antler in my neck of the woods that have had as little damage as that set. Very fortuitous find for sure.

I think it would be bitter sweet to find that on my place. Shame he didn't make it, great that he was there and probably spread his genes.

Some of my best European mounts are deer I found dead and never saw in person.

Not too far from lovelady on the trinity river...i watched this deer from 3 1/2 and held off when he was 4 1/2 he was suppose to be shot when he was 5 1/2 but of corse must hav got aholt of our plans and never showed up once...found him about 200 yards from the stand he was always seen at..

You've got some great deer on your place for sure. I've actually spent lots of time in Lovelady, but never hunted Houston County.

Nice buck for sure. But they can age pretty fast in the elements. Dont think he is all that old myself.

It is crazy how those old bucks die without being caught.

That is why I love to hunt these intelligent animals.

What are you talking about? Don't you know that all you have to do is put up a feeder and sit in a stand and you can kill any deer out there?

That must have been one bad buck in his day. It's a shame he is gone but like txshntr said hopefully he passed on a lot of his genes.

I think he was 1.5 years old and he died from stress related to being a queer deer in a straight county.

Funny you mention that, my father inlaw has caught the same buck 3 times this year lol!! Some how he manages to get in the pig traps...then the fight is on to get him out.
