Jeep vs Mule

Looking to replace my older mule .
Looking at a new mule pro or an older wrangler unlimited
Appreciate your comments ???

Comes down to your roads and road width IMO. Mule is more comfortable suspension wise, and narrower thus tends to catch less stobs in tire side walls. Used jeep is cheaper and street legal. You will get twice the full mileage in a mule, trailering is easier with mule, storage is easier with Jeep’s as mules seem rat/mouse prone. Mule has higher stock seating capacity. Mule has lessor footprint in general, both have heat and Ac availability, both have hard and soft enclosures. Easier to pull a stuck mule out then jeep also

Mule will have more utility.
Jeep can have more comfort level - roof, AC, heat, etc.

Adding that comfort level to a Mule will make it overweight and take away hauling ability AND make it VERY expensive.

If it's a lease only vehicle, it takes smaller trailer/truck to haul Mule than Jeep.

If you have rats and mice, anything you leave sitting for over a few weeks at a time is a target for them and they love to strip and cut wires, hoses, etc.
Squirrels can bring that misery to a whole new level.

Auto engines are slightly less prone to the alcohol in today's gas but you should still use Stabil 360 in both - even if it only sits for a little while.

Get the Jeep. I drive a 02 Tacoma Crew Cab. When cold, I turn on the heater or defroster. If raining I turn on the wipers. When a 100 degrees, I turn on the AC. My Tacoma can go places the ATVs can't because I can drive over taller brush.

I've had both on a hunting lease and both have their pros and con's.
My jeeps were street legal, but I pulled them to the lease.
That being said, I now use a mule on our property. It is the best
choice for me.....For you and your needs?????

I love the heater and defroster in my mule, I’m probably going to add AC next year,( minimal weight and only about $2k). Weight wise It’s just a $75 spring change although I’ve already changed mine. Majority of Aftermarket roofs weigh more then AC roof.

Having close to 20” of ground clearance is nice also

Generally the Mule will stay on top where the Jeep will sink in some areas.

And a UTV will go more places than a Jeep.

if hunting big ranches I prefer my jeeps over the mules as we do a lot of safari style hunting and visibility and quietness pays dividends.

That makes me cringe.

I can understand how someone with Chevy in their name would feel that way, but no cringing is allowed. Get a Toyota, buy Deestone 16 X 7.50's mud & snow bias ply tires, put goop in the front ones and graphite in the rear - drive it anywhere. Just not an issue.

In addition, the quietness of my six cylinder Toyota cannot be matched by an atv unless it is electric and well, who wants one of them? I know some do, but our distances are just too great.

Depends on your age. I sold my low-mileage '04 Rubicon when I started making a groaning noise every time I got in it, lifting myself over the "gunwales". 'Front neighbor has a hard-top, same model. I might covet it from time to time.

My Can-Am is the best riding vehicle off road of anything I've ever owned.

'Haven't gotten any type of vehicle stuck in a couple of decades.

I agree, having 17” of clearance in my mule and a full 12 inches of suspension travel is a kidney savor on none maintained ranch roads

My vote is jeep. I have both and the only advantage the mule has for me is ease of loading bagged feed.

If this is for a ranch vehicle only, get a mule, by a long shot.

I have been around or owned a jeep (my wife) for a little over 2 decades. In that time every jeep I have seen or personal known the owner has had a catastrophic failure from nothing more than what it is intended to do. My wifes jeep is a looker, but the thing just won't stop giving us trouble and we are close to getting rid of it, and that's mainly just driving around town miles. Very little light off road duty, mostly road miles and some hwy miles. Jeeps are just not made well, and they are definitely not made to accept aftermarket mods without totally gutting everything and starting new with just the chassis.

If you plan to drive it to town and want something for both uses, the jeep would be the better way to go, but even then I would consider a mule and a burner car for the ranch-road travels.

My parting advice, if the ranch has any decent amount of off roading need, stay as far away from jeep as you can.

I will not buy it 'cause I got an Albatross '86 Bronco hanging around my neck currently, but I would if I could.

My partner had a Jeep rubicon 4 door and I have a 4-seater can am.

His is very impressive off road but I can get my can am places he can’t.

And there has been several instances where he has said “hey can we use your can am for....” never happens with the Jeep.

Only upside to the Jeep is no trailering and heat/ac

According to a cousin of mine, he can use his tacoma on corps land because it is a street legal truck and not an ATV. No atv use allowed on corps land. Says he ises it when he hunts Lavon.

So if you hunt corps lakes that jeep might be the way to go.

What are you going to use it for is my first thought.

It's all been answered above but I'll confirm. My Mule Pro will go places on the lease my buddy's Jeep won't, but he can go anywhere he needs to go. The places they both can go, the Mule will do it much more comfortably from a suspension standpoint, but his will do it with heat/AC.

If you leave the doors and roof on to take advantage of the heat/AC, quick access to your gun becomes an issue as well.

I really like my Mule but my buddy on the lease traded his old school Mule in on a Jeep this last season. It kind of gave the bug to get a Jeep until I rode around in it out there. It beats the crap out of you compared to the Mule, is harder to get in and out of, doesn't go all the same places, isn't as nimble, and isn't as good for working out of (filling feeders, clearing, moving feeders and blinds, etc.)

Of course, a used Jeep is also about 1/3 the price of a new Mule Pro, about 1/2 the price of a used one, and is street legal if you ever needed it to be. Also doesn't require a trailer to move or having to store a trailer just for it. You can drive it or flat tow it.

I have a Jeep and a Ranger. My old legs have a harder time getting into the Jeep but It will go anywhere on my lease the Ranger will. If it wasn't for the high leg lift, I would use the Jeep for my situation, but the Ranger has ease of entry going for it.

I bought the Jeep to tow behind my RV and to replace the Ranger. It will go to town and through the mud. But the Ranger lets me slide right in. That has kept it out of the sales sites.

There is a bit of stammering when my wife asks me why I need so many vehicles.

used 4x4 pickup and a 4 wheeler, then you can haul more and go more places than a jeep or mule. No trailer needed either

Mule will always start, Jeep won’t. I’ve had both and have never had problem with mule. Can’t say that about my Jeep

You need to treat the Jeep better....
