How to value a "sunk cost" hunting rig?

I'm going to go against the norm on an internet forum and admit I was stupid. Real stupid. I'm gonna give my '86 Bronco one more season out at the deer lease before I decide if I'm going to peddle it, but I'm dreaming of a fast car before I get too old and the wife and I agree that the fleet must be reduced before we buy anything else. And my Chevy pickup really does everything I need out at the lease, except for what you'd use a UTV for.

I bought it for $1,500.00. I've bought a new short block, carb, tires, and lots of other stuff (electrical, etc.) Still has the old, bled-out A/C, but it does have heat. Street legal and licensed.

I realize that I can't expect to get even a fraction of what I put in it, but how do you go about coming up with a fair asking price?

NADA value, then go from there.

I search the market rate in about a 100-150 mile radius from me and then compare condition of mine vs theirs.

NADA is always a good place to start for a base figure.
Then check craigslist, want adds, etc. for your area to compare.

If you have your receipts for new stuff you bought and service records, that's a bargaining chip in your favor.
Also street legal and licensed which means good title, opens up your market quite a bit as it's not limited to "off-road" use only.

Creekrunner you can also research "sold" prices on eBay, and that can include your region too.

Go buy a new ford diesel 4x4

Faster than most production cars, doubles as a hunting rig and makes the girls get weak in the knees.

X2. they are semi-collectable. the 80's models not quite as much but the 70's and 90's, especially 94-96'

Bronco was one of my favorite trucks. I wanted one so bad in high school.


I told my wife I'm buying one of the new ones when they come out....I don't think she believes me yet...

Unfortunately the new ones are going to be the size of a Bronco II not a fullsize vehicle.

The new midsize class is the size of the full-size from 30 years ago.



We have a guy who has a extended cab 94’ half ton F-150 and it’s just a tad bigger than a new Tacoma.

Most of the world already has the Ranger which is the platform it’s going to be based on. I’ve been inside one, (a new ranger) your right it’s a little wider but not much....
