Hunting Jeep pics - 10/26/13 05:35 AM

It would seem a lot of folks on here prefer the UTVs, but for those that use Jeeps, how about posting some pics?

LOL, I'm sure there are lots of after-market Jeep roofs available - certainly there is one available that fits better than this one. Though I'm sure none of them will double as a blind like this one.

Seriously though, nice Jeep, nice blind.

Nope that is a first, but I have seen a 94 chevy beretta with a whitetail strapped across the trunk. Girl friend wasn't real happy about that but my truck was in the shop. SO what's your point.

Point is throwing a chunk of plywood on top of a jeep don't make a hunting rig, it makes a jeep with a box on it. I guess mine is a grocery getter though, the groceries just still have the hair on em.

They are made by a company in north Texas. I have been using one this year (after seeing this same pic) & really like it. Their website is at:

Here's mine. It's a 95' YJ with a custom built front end. The seats have since been cut off with a torch. The guy I bought it from used it for quail hunting. It'll come in handy for hauling corn, ice chests, dead stuff, you know...

Re: Hunting Jeep pics - 12/21/13 02:44 PM

This is my 1981 CJ5. I built both front and rear bumpers. Installed a 10,00 pound Milemarker winch, Stowmaster tow bar, removable 12 foot gin poles and road feeder on the front. The rear has a high lift jack mounted and a vertical/horizontal tote tray which also has height adjustments. The crane is from Harbor Freight and modified a bit (shortened, electric winch and plate for a "go light").

Yeah, it looks like a bit further and the driver rear would've dropped and leveled out. Hard to say from pics though. I have a lot of pictures from crazy obstacles that look tame in the photos.

I'll have to update this thread before long, my jeep is getting some major upgrades

Re: Hunting Jeep pics - 05/09/14 06:28 PM

For the record your both right. I took a bad line and the front tire just lifted. If you look at the back driver tire there is a ravine probably about 6 feet deep straight down. I figure i was about 1 foot up the hill from it. But since I couldn't tell, I kept my foot on the break and had my buddy tether me just incase I rolled back a little when I put it in gear. That hill is much worse in real life than it looks in the picture. It all worked out tho. That jeep may have a 4 cylinder, but she's a tuff little b**.

I understand, I attempted a hill much like that one in my "08 F-250 in the snow, things didnt work out to well for me. I had to abandone the truck and locate help. If it I had been in my Jeep and would have just hammered down and hoped for the best. The 4 cylinders are very good motors when proper gearing is in place.

My nephew and I are resurrecting his old 1974 DJ5 postal Jeep. Drug it to my shop, have replaced shocks and tires, installed new u-joints. Pulled the sliding doors and repaired the slider systems. Cut out the old dented rear bumper and built new one. We are working on the fuel system now, pulled the tank for clean out and will re-do the fuel lines and filter. We will remove the body rust and camo paint the entire Jeep. I have figured and we will soon buy the material to build a two seat high rack for our night time coyote hunting. Although we both have digital night vision scopes, we will install LED lighting on the high rack as well. I just have to design an elevator to lift my tired old worn out butt to the top. My nephew just retired after 20 years U.S.A.F. service. He deserves some relaxing hunting time. I am mighty proud of him and all our veterans.

This is my 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 62k miles that I have had since 1999. It was my vehicle through high school and most of college. When I moved to Texas in 2005 I left it with my parents. They moved to Longview in 2007 and told me I could have it back whenever I had space for it. Well, I recently made space and got it last weekend. It's all original except for the stereo and speakers, but that's all about to change.

OK yeah that's a little spooky. No issues yet but 1)what is the potential for damage and 2)how expensive is a preventative change out?

Thanks for the heads up.

The axle isn't the issue, the gears are the issue. Judging by your prior posts, I think you're well versed in that, but I wanted to make sure it was clear, as mentioned earlier, that the gearing is what needs to be changed in the D44 when going up in tire size. I have the D35 in my TJ Sahara, so I'm looking to swap up to a D44 with probably 4.88 gears, then adding air lockers in front and rear, suspension lift, new fenders, bumpers, winch, rock sliders... let the spending begin.

Progress on Jeep project. Platform built and mounted. Rail padding, 12 volt wiring and light mounting pretty much all we have left to do.

Ready for the first hunt.

Great idea, but I think to bulky.

None taken texsider, seriously. Some will like the design, some won't. We built it strictly for pasture use, and so far it has worked well for us. Again, no offense taken.

Re: Hunting Jeep pics - 09/17/15 05:33 PM

Just purchased this 1992 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 last weekend. Every thing works on it, to include the AC and heater. 3" Rough Country lift and shocks with Dana 35/30 rear/front axles.

Before I drive it out to the lease (registration and inspection stickers still valid) for archery opener, I'm going to paint it OD green, add some hood vents, and modify the door hinges to make 'em quick removable doors like a Wrangler. After that, I'll add an LED bar, a front-mounted winch, and...well, y'all are Jeep owners; you know the modifications/upgrades/additions are never done.

I'd look at the LJ as well if I were on the market. The longer wheel base, d44 rear, and extra space help in more way than one.

An LJ rubicon is up on my list of "dream cars" for sure.

Re: Hunting Jeep pics - 11/23/15 04:59 PM

Try eBay.

A lot of dealers from TX sell on there and have good reputations. A client of mine bought a car from one of them and got a great example. It used to be more sketchy but since they started cracking down on sellers you have to do things clean or they'll burn you hard on the reviews.

Just check the feedback.

Made a trade for this jeep this weekend. No title but was told it is a 59 Willys. Will have to do some research. Motor cranks & runs. New radiator, carburetor, distributor & wiring replaced. Jeep runs & 4 wheel drive works. No brakes but fellow did have a new master cylinder for the jeep stll in the box. So that will be the first project. At one time someone had started a rack project on the back. Not sure why I needed it since I no longer hunt. May fix up or just decide to sell/trade down the road.

Tx KC, you going to put the deer on top? That lift is tall enough. I got an 81, where did you buy the top? Mine has snaps, see in your photo. Need that color to match my interior. Was it hard to install that style?
Posted By: TexasKC

Re: Hunting Jeep pics - 09/08/17 01:28 AM

^^^^ The top is just a standard Bestop I put on to replace the original. I think you can get a direct replacement for the original. It's been on there so long I don't remember where I got it. The lift I made out of some scrap I had in my shop. It swivels just below the winch so I can raise a deer and swing it into the bed of my truck. It works really well with the drop down leg that retracts.

You can only put a sled and half an elk inside the small two door Jeep. The Smittybilt rollout drawer box is nice, but does take up a bunch of room. Then you hang the hindquarters on the front bumper. Looks like a bad traffic accident!!!
