another hunting rig project - 01/27/13 05:17 AM
So I picked up a 94 Toyota 4x4 truck for cheap. It's factory lifted, single cab, 5spd, 4cyl 22R-E.
Downside is it needs a motor and tires but everything else seems to be in good shape. It starts, just has a dead cylinder and a bad lower bearing.
I will get pics up in couple of days.
As funds permit, I plan to add off road lights, strong bumpers and a winch. Oh yeah....and rifle racks. I may also do a paint job on it. I really like the brownish green color that Jeep is using.
I may keep it as a daily driver so I can give my 00' Trans Am (inheritance from Dad) a much needed rest.
I figured that at $600 I couldn't go wrong.
I did see one in Arlington that is all jacked up and has a v-8 in it but I don't know how streetable it would be. It looked be strictly off road.

That'll make a nice rig. I have a '85 that's getting a motor overhaul now. It'll get a high rack built for the back soon too.

High rack will most likely come right after the motor swap

I got lucky and it wasn't a bad oil pump so no need for the overhaul. I picked mine back up this morning. The dang sending unit went out and was causing the oil light to stay on
If your going to want or need new tires, 4Wheel parts has a buy 3 get 1 free sale starting 02/01/2013. I'll be buying a new set of 33/12.50/15 for mine. My 35's are too big and rub too bad.

That's tough. I really like the simple bumper.

I'm not that mechanical, but would really like to find one of these older Toyotas. All the ones I see down here (west of San Antonio) are in a caravan, hooked together two-by-two, loaded with bicycles and refrigerators and headed to Mehico on IH10.

My suggestion on finding them cheap.....though you may have to put some work in to it....is look for the wrecker service auctions. Mainly the ones that do private property towing like from apartment complexes.
Also don't overlook the jeep Cherokee. I have 1 that stays at the lease. If you can get the front tires on it, it will climb it and they are TOUGH.

Love my Toyota 4x4s. best vehicle ever made IMO. I have an '89 sr5 4x4 xtra-cab and a '93 sr5 4-runner. Both over 250,000 miles. Other than belts, brakes and batteries they have NEVER broken down or left me stranded. Ever. Oh yeah, mine are both v-6. No guts but smooth as silk.

Unless you're selling for $100 or want to trade for 2 new pmags I can't afford it right now
. You shouldn't have any problem selling it though.
