My home office "trophy room"

My home office "trophy room" - 05/16/23 02:27 PM

I went on my first trip to Africa in April of 2022 (link to my hunt report is in my signature below). I received my trophies in mid-November, but am just now getting around to organizing everything and displaying it how I want. I had everything done as European mounts, with the exception of a Zebra rug.

11 of my 13 trophies from the trip are displayed in my home office, along with a few other animals from Texas and my modest library. My Gemsbok and Springbok are displayed in our sun room, along with a Red Stag I took a few years ago.

I figured some of you might want to see just how efficient you can get with skull mounts. My office is only 12 ft. x 15 ft. with 8 ft. ceilings so it's certainly not a large space, but I have 20 trophies displayed in what I believe is a tasteful manner. Here are some photos, as well as a "walk through" video.

Im not much on skull mounts but those look real good. I really like the one on the little table with the horns that sweep way back(I cant ID any of your stuff except WT.) Thanks for posting. Impressive.
How long did it take to clear all the clutter off your desk?.......

Just a warning. That direct light is going to fade your mounts over time.....and it doesn't take as long as you might think. I'd suggest a UV blocker on the windows, or there are some commercial sprays that advertise as UV blockers that you apply directly on the hair. Love the "condenseness" of it cool

Very impressive! If it was me the Sable, Oryx and Genbock would have been shoulder mounts.
Enjoy!

Some great memories on those walls.

Looks great. I think skull mounts are under-appreciated. When I see a house full of heads I think it looks awkward....I think yours looks very tasteful.

Looks good. Is that a Sable? I think I would have done that one in a shoulder mount. They are so pretty.

When I went to South Africa, I was under strict orders from my wife NOT to shoot a zebra. Too much like a horse for her. I think they make a great rug, although because I was there in the summer, the pelt wouldn't have been great. I shot a wildebeest cow because I wanted a rug, and it was very disappointing because of the season. My son immediately tied a pink ribbon on its tail and dubbed it "Eeyore."

Yep that’s a 44” Sable…..they are definitely a gorgeous animal. I would love to have them all mounted, but I don’t have the space for them. And the cost of quality taxidermy gets pretty high when you start mounting big animals. I decided before I even went on the trip that I would do skull mounts on everything to keep the price down. That allowed me to hunt more animals and enjoy the trip more (in my opinion).

Personally, I love skull mounts and as long as I’m on a budget, I will continue to mount most of my animals that way. I would rather spend the extra money on my next hunt instead of taxidermy. If I mounted everything from my Africa trip, it would have easily cost more than my entire hunt.

I like that one. How is the skull attached to the antler? I have one at the ranch that we have not hung on the wall yet. I might steal this idea.

I hear you on the cost. Regardless, these are great mementos of a great experience.

Eland,
Looks great to me and I understand the hunt more vs taxi costs. I'm headed to South Africa next year for first trip and working on animal wish list and will be doing a mix of mount and euro. Most will be going in my home office room also which is not much larger than yours so thanks for posting to see options.

I do a lot of European mounts myself, for friends and family. I have an elk I would have love to have had mounted, but at the time I had low ceilings and a tight budget raising 4kiddos. Maybe I'll just have to get a bigger elk anf have it mounted!
