You can see the 5 claw marks on the top picture. I don't have any idea what it is. The tracks are from last night.

'Nail' marks.

Not enough contrast in the pic (because of soil type and color) for me to make much more of it.

How big are the tracks? Hard to get a sense of scale from the pics. The top pic looks vaguely similar to the front paw of a black bear but is missing the toe indentations typically found between the claws and the main foot pad:

Wow, I can see the claw holes now in first picture. I didn’t think it was part of the print originally. Be careful at night.

Would like to know size as well.

It’s a Squatch or a Back Bear. I say it’s a Squatch.

HF would do nothing to stop a black bear. They are agile and climb on par with a coon.

Well in tthat case this could interesting. If there is one thing l picked over these years of reading the forum is that Don does not pardon predators

Sounds like your going to need a bigger shovel

Looks like a badger track to me. Their claws are long and sharp and are typically splayed out like that because of the length of them.

It's a porcupine

Could be. We are getting a lot of them around here. The tracks are around 2.5" on the flattened-out part. I have never seen any badgers around here.

I could possibly Badger in that print, but its just not clear enough to really tell.

Badgers front paws have claws that are in a fairly straight line from one another (the first four) and the their track (front) is sorta boxy in shape.

We used have 800 acres up in Goldthwaite and back in the 70's we positively saw a badger there one year while deer hunting. Had never seen one before (or after) that encounter.

I don't know what their common range is out of South Texas is....but Mills Country is WAY North of where you usually see them (back then)....so who knows what you have on your property.

At 2.5 inches too small for bear this time of year. In June maybe a cub but they are all bigger than that now

Looks like it to me. I see them and catch them in snares, but this was the first time I have seen tracks or looked at their feet. Thanks
