Snake ID - 04/30/22 08:15 PM

Almost stepped on this guy last night getting out of my truck to open the gate. Never seen one like this before around here. After I cleaned myself up, he got to meet the bottom side of my tire. In the dark, it looked like a water moccasin. Went back for a better look this morning. What say you snake experts? Diamondback water snake? [Linked Image]

With that fat a body and angular head, I prob woulda shot it anyway thinking it was a moccasin.

Anyway to tell those two apart without getting too close and personal?

Yea, I have killed more than one DB Water snake thinking it was a Moccasin. Too bad too. I try not to kill the good snakes.
