A Few Pics of our Stream

A Few Pics of our Stream - 04/13/22 11:53 PM

These are a few (of the hundred or more that I’ve taken) pics of a spring fed stream that runs through 2 miles of our lease. Native Americans were still living on it when the current owners “bought” it in 1854. Actually, the land was granted to the original owner (same family) for his service in the Texas Revolution.

And I bet that water stays pretty cool during the summer and makes for a fine sit in the water on a hot afternoon up

What county?

Yes sir. Some of the pools are over 20’ deep. If you jump in on a hot day, it takes your breath away.

Re: A Few Pics of our Stream - 04/14/22 06:50 PM

Yes it is. The landowner told me I could find and keep anything I wanted. I found a G10 spear point a couple of years ago. Probably a $3,000 piece. I didn’t feel right about keeping something that nice so I gave it to the landowner. He tried to get me to keep it but it was just too much.

You are a lucky man. Does it have fish? If yes, what kind kind and how big? Interested on how big they will get in a small stream like that with deep holes

Yes, it has perch, black bass, and catfish in it. And some sort of sucker that’s long and slim. We’ve caught bass out of it over 5lbs. Some of the perch are bigger than your hand. For whatever reason, the big bass usually come out of the narrow places. All catch and release. If we want fish to eat, there’s a ~10 acre lake in the back stocked with blue catfish. Most in the 3-6lb range. I’ve been hunting there for 28 years. Our group had held the lease since 1961 with 1 remaining original member still hunting there. Nine of us on 2,500 acres.

Here's Red Oak Creek, behind our house. It forms in Cedar Hill and runs 35 miles to Bristol, Texas where it joins the Trinity River to the Gulf.
No doubt, Indians and settlers made much use of it. .........our bird dogs like it too.

If it was mine he couldn’t buy it, but on a sour note, none of you would be leasing it to hunt on either. I’m stingy like that. roflmao

I doubt it has a name. Just a small feeder creek.

Yes he is. We are blessed that he is as honorable as his Aunt was that willed that parcel to him. He told us that his Aunt had stated that we could hunt there as long as we liked and he was honoring that agreement. He is very protective of his land. We can trim or clear out any tree except a Live Oak. He’s worried about Oak Wilt. He told me once that he never worried about us being on his land because he knew we treated it as though it was ours. Yep, we are blessed to have such a good landowner and that we’ve developed a deep trust between us.
