Aoudad. Finally... - 03/29/22 05:47 PM
I saw my first Aoudad on the ranch 22 years ago walking to a blind just before daylight. Was 8 years before I saw another one on our side of the fence, and only saw them sporadically since then. Man these guys are wary buggers. Finally saw a group of 4 rams within rifle distance this weekend and sealed the deal on the best on in the group. Not the biggest we've ever seen, but the best I've ever had in the cross hairs.
I'm now only a speed goat away from having the Texas Panhandle "grand slam".

Texas Grand Slam consists of: Desert Big horn Sheep, White tail, Mule deer, Antelope.
However, I set up my own Poor Man's Texas Grand Slam many years ago because there is no way I could ever afford a Desert Big horn sheep,
and I have completed it.
Consists of: Whitetail deer, Mule deer, Antelope, and a javelina.

In my book it's a Mule Deer, White Tail, Aoudad and Prong Horn. The 4 big game animals available to hunt in the Texas panhandle. (unless you count hogs)

That would be a much harder Grand Slam with the Aoudad, but I only did the game animals that were native to Texas.

The ranch south of you had a feeder on canyon rim and had them feeding on corn and alfalfa. This was before Foster sold the place your on 24 years ago.

Congrats on a nice Ram Dave…
Very nice, I shot my first last year. I had heard horror stories about their smell and taste. I did not experience any of that. The meat is pretty good.
Really cool! I'm not one who's much into trophies, especially deer and other antler animals. However i really want a "trophy" goat or sheep. An aoudad like yours would fully satisfy that want for me.

Doesn’t count unless you have to scale up and down those canyon walls
Congratulations on a fine looking animal.
A while back on the palo duro hunt, I remember some guys saying they watched a big herd on that side of the fence which never crossed over. It was eating them up.
