Wood Ducks!

Well I've been wanting to harvest a wood duck for awhile now and I finally had the opportunity to make that happen last weekend! One of these is definitely going on the wall! Now the decision is what pose to use???

Rare in some places in Texas. They are Mostly located out east.

This is virtually every day at one of my feeders by a small pond. Sometimes as many as twenty-five Wood Ducks.

Back when my family had our place in Wood County I could get a Woodie or two almost every time I wanted to hunt. Even managed to get a few banded ones.
Pretty good eating as well.

Sorry no pictures that I can find and my son has the mount now...my favorite Wood Duck mount is a drake/hen pair...hen perched coming out of a Wood Duck box with her head craned a little bit looking up...at her mate perched on top of the box, head craned a little and looking down at her...

finally got this mount back and I think it turned out great!

I had a pair in my back yard last week. One day I will get around to making a nesting box for them.
