Fun times - 2 doe and a coyote - 12/29/21 09:07 PM
Popped out of my stand at about 10:15 to go change camera cards, went down the stairs to my Excursion, tossed in my bags and whatnot I had in the stand with me, slammed the doors closed. Had just finished up a phone call on speaker. No movement all morning long.
Walk about 15-20 yards in front of my stand, dead center in my lane… doe pops out to cross and eat. I’ve never stayed so still in my life LOL.
Slowly moved over when she would look away. She moved to the other side of the feeder. I backed up, another doe came across…this time a bit bigger. I didn’t want to walk up the stairs and make a bunch of noise and couldn’t lean up against the tree, so I backed up behind the stand and about had to lay down to rest the gun on a crossbeam. Nailed her in the lungs through some branches I saw. Knew I had a good shot. Walked back up into the stand to let her go rest…moment I sit down, another doe pops out and I neck shoot her from behind
Checking camera movements, these two shots were 4 minutes apart, so the second doe came out not even 2-3 minutes after I shot the first one
Larger one was 81.2# dressed! Thankfully I had the cargo straps to drag her out from the woods. She only got about 20 yards in
Went back after I dressed these two to cover up the blood under the feeder from the neck shot. When I was coming in the lane, a coyote came down from the far side. Pretty sure he was coming after the blood scent. He danced along the tree line and I said…I’m gonna nail his [censored]…and right as he turned to burn off into the woods, I did exactly what I said I’d do! He made it a few yards in and dove into a hole where I pulled him out
