Snow Goose Leg Band @ Hagerman

Posted By: Dodge_Rock

Snow Goose Leg Band @ Hagerman - 12/02/21 02:51 PM

Stopped by the Hag to watch/photo/listen to the geese. It's an intense sight/sound moment when they all launch up together from the wheat field.

Didn't see the ankle bling until viewing pics on the laptop later.

I'll go find him again. Shouldn't be too hard to pick him out, right?

Holy crap that’s a lot of birds. You shouldn’t have any problem finding it again.

That is badarse. As a big goose hunter, listening to the roar of several 1000 snows get up is something that gets me going every time. That white-bellied blue is a trophy and the fact that it is banded is just the cherry. I will be looking for that one when it hits the coast!

I've been to Hagerman many times over the years. They can sure trim that wheat down to a putting green or less.

"how do you pick just one to shoot"

Aim small, miss small, or shoot the one where you can see the whites of it's eyes. smile

Dang you got eagle eyes, 'specially when their legs are tucked up under all those feathers when they fly!

We've had perfectly timed rain, & the wheat is the tallest & thickest ever. If this many geese stay, it'll be the 19th hole by Feb.

Well, I'll be darned. Was up at Hag again today & wouldn't you know it, that same goose, out of all the thousands there, decided to fly right past me.

I believe 2 different banded birds, the first one doesn’t appear to have the black speckling behind the eye. As well as theres a difference in the amount of white on the bellies.

But when I whistled for it & called it's name, it jumped up & flew right over. smile

I just need a few more numbers to identify where & when it was banded.

Only a couple of doves seen all year. Winter storm killed 'em off. Even now, you're lucky to jump a couple up when walking. Was going to try my luck in September, but I saw zero birds!
