Full Moon Madness - 10/25/21 06:57 PM

Saturday night was warm and perfect for whiskey drinking and rattle bug hunting! We got 11 around the house which is a new record for one night.

I’ve turned Tim into a good snake hunter, he wouldn’t stop!

What? You said 11 in one night?
Hell man, 4 is the record for me on our place and that is HORRIBLE to say the least.
Most I ever killed in a hunt down south was 13 or 14 and that was an October bow hunt where we had a strong front approaching and had the bastadages out everywhere before it hit.

Yes sir, 11! We are up to 20 for the year. Last year we killed 17 and my German wire hair got bit so as of now they are all guilty!!! He knows all about snakes so he obviously never saw it and we had no idea he was bit until later when it swelled up. It took 4 months to recover but he’s good to go now.

Our GSP got bit bad about 6 years ago. She took a double bite and my guess she was running and landed right on top of one that was coiled up. One between her last two teets and the other on the back of her hind quarter. We were damn lucky to have a hell of a vet in the family and he along with 2 other of his vets saved her. I do believe a prior bite shed taken in the face years earlier along with the vaccine also played a part. The ordeal was not a fun one for her or us and lasted about 8 weeks from day of bite until she didn't have to wear the cone of shame any longer and we didn't have to flush it out daily 3 or 4 times.

ANY rattlesnake I find meets the judge damn fast and she sends em straight to hell in a hurry where they belong!

And anybody who can look at these pictures below and loves dogs that can come on here and say they let rattlesnakes go because they are good.........I question them beyond words!

How do you keep that open wound from getting infected, massive amounts of antibiotics?

So happy your dog was ok! It’s insane what these snakes can do and I really regret playing with them in years past. This is Hektor our GWP after 1 year.

68, my cousin mixed up some betadine, sugar, and something else that made a pasty goo. We flushed her leg 3-5 times a day for 10-15 minutes and than applied the goo to it. you would think running water over a wound like that would be painful but she just stood and let us do it.
She wore the cone of shame about 7 weeks if I remember right.

We also kept her on antibiotics the first 15 days or so.

Good luck I would have taken him to the vet.

Hektor spent 4 months with Dr Conley in Vernon, he said it was one of the worst he had ever seen. I won't even post the pics because it was about 10x the pics above and he had to wear the cone of shame for 6+ months. This weekend will probably be another snake hunt at the ranch.

Do you ever keep and tan the skins or cook the meat?
