.Mother nature showing off!
Wow that is a huge amount of energy!
Yes it is.
1988 while at work a storm collapsed (Micro Burst) right above or next to us, blew all the doors open it was an awesome display of force.
1996 I was working my first turnaround at the old Coastal Refinery in Corpus, before it became Valero. Early morning safety meeting before dawn and got hit with a microburst. It was insane. 55 gallon drums full of trash flying through the air like nothing. Blew over a huge Manitowoc crane and when that crane came crashing down next to us over the top of the unit buddy, there is no describing that sound. Jib hit the Control Room and ripped all the conduit out of the wall, and the ball whipped around and went through the roof and hit the floor in between 3 Operators. Lost all power & PSV’s were popping everywhere. We evacuated like a mofo. I was in a dead run for the gate and the wind hit me in the back and picked me up and through me about 20 yrds. I hit the ground on my chest and slid like on a Slip n Slide. It was awesome lol. Crane hit a 36” HP Hydrogen line, smahed it but thank God it didn’t bust. An Operator explained to me later that if that line were to burst the chain reaction of fire & explosions that would have taken place possibly killing all of us before we could get out. I had never even heard of a microburst before that.
