My Wildlife Guzzler - 06/23/21 01:51 PM
A buddy and I built this out of scrap we had laying around our place. My son painted the water trough so hopefully it wouldn't get as hot and be less visible. Hopefully it will help out the critters this summer.

Looking good, now just keep an eye open for a few feet of rain gutter to put on the trough side of your sheet metal and you'll be catching 100% of the water.
FYI - I would also suggest either stacking some cinder blocks in a stair step configuration inside the trough, or take a scrap piece of cattle panel and bend it over the inside as an "exit ladder".
Sooner or a coon, opossum or other small animal will try to get a drink and fall in the trough and be trapped inside like a mouse in a bucket and eventually you will be left with a rotting carcass floating in the water.

nifty build rob valle
A small roof can shed a lot of water in a hurry. Every inch of rain yields .623 gallons of water per sq/ft
So, a 10'x10' roof will give you over 62 gallons for every inch of rainfall.

I like that and may make one in my hunting area even though I have a small tank 600 to 700 yards from my stand that’s not visible. The land owner will most likely like it as well as live stock can use it as well.

A little sweat equity and rural engineering gets the job done. Nice.

You've inspired me to renovate an old goat shed on the place and hang a gutter on it. 3/4 of the roof is off, but most of it is still laying on the ground around it.
