Help identifying a plant

Who can tell what this plant is? Growing on the side of the road near my lease in Stonewall County.

Gourds! Love those things.

I saw those also a year or so ago. Looked them up. They are called prairie gourds. I brought one of the fruits home and cut it open. Smelled like pumpkin, but did not have a good flavor. Towards the fall, look for small, round melons.
