Good way to kill a Saturday.

Good way to kill a Saturday. - 05/30/21 03:51 AM

Finally able to catch a few days to work on the place. Filled up 2 30 yard dumpsters so far, was scheduled for pick up and delivery of dumpster No.3. Last night in SA we had a monster storm so I assumed they were going to reschedule like they have about 3 other times prior.

Well today at 8:30 I get a call saying the driver is stuck in the mud.....he was able to get loose but was not able to get the 2’nd dumpster.

I had planned on going up today and when I get to the county road I see ruts...could only imagine what the entrance to the place looked like....needless to say my expectations were met:

After seeing this I didn’t want to do anything dumpster related and instead decided to focus my anger on some brush piles....piles were actually a little too wet so I was only able to get 3 started. Using the forks on the loader I was able to pop out quite a few sizable dead cedar trees and add them to the pile. Youngest boy ran point making sure the piles didn’t get out of control.

Pushed off early and drove around a bit, decided which piles I’m gonna burn tomorrow and took in the evening view.

Progress is a wonderful thing. You gotta admire the overzealous dogged determination of the dumpster truck driver. Nothing there a little blade work wont fix.

This info may be useless because usually it's plenty dry to burn. I have mixed old motor oil with diesel and it gets wet piles to start.

Nice work. Very satisfying to rid ones self of burn piles. I start my new ones over stumps.

Looking good. up The ruts will heal in time.

I have plenty of piles to burn, including the one at home that the War Dept. has mentioned several times.

If I have dozed a pile of green mesquite, black brush etc. and need to burn it, I use a pump up sprayer with just diesel fuel. Makes no difference if it's raining or not. If I can get just a tiny flame going from paper or whatever and hit it with the sprayer it creates one heck of an inferno. Sounds like a jet engine going. Keep that up for a tad and the heat will break down the brush and off it goes. I have done this for many years. Many times I need to burn stuff right then rather than wait till it dry's cause then we will probably be in a burn ban. My nephew saw me do it and now he swears by the process.

Put the diesel on the day before. Give it a lil drench and it will burn right up.

I have been doing the same thing now for about 20 yrs with the pump up sprayer with diesel only. I light on the upwind side so the wind will pushed flames will dry out ahead of the main fire. I have taken it a step better with the use of a battery powered leaf blower to stoke the flames.

I have used a pump sprayer filled with diesel many times. This stuff is just so dry it’s just been taking a lit napkin to ignite the entire pile. The tractor was full and I didnt have a 5 gallon can of diesel, it would have came in real handy

Going to go buy a pear burner and order a diesel tank so I have diesel on tap and be ready to light some piles

Maybe I’m in The minority but I would have that company fix your roads. If we have contractors at our place tear up the roads they get an earful. There is always so much work to be done that We don’t need stupidity adding to the need to get done list.

Used spray once on wet pile and it worked great but the leaf blower I hadn't thought of, thank you.
