Peek A Boo

Peek A Boo - 04/24/21 02:46 PM

Just returned from a few days in South Texas where we were able to call a few critters for CARNIVORE and my buddy Pecos Hagler photographed some of the events. Most of you remember that Pecos is the gentleman that took the cover shot for my book, EYES FRONT. [Linked Image] This is one of my favorites that I titled Peek A Boo.

I think that many of you will recognize "Old Jack" who is well over 60 years old and of course the ultrasonic caller that drives cats crazy.

Great pic! I think he would be disappointed in how Jack tasted.

Gary, I know Murray Burnham used to have a taxidermy jackrabbit like that one.

He kept it inside his store in Marble Falls, among rattlesnakes and other things Murray.

Great photo!

I remember the old store in Marble Falls (late 60's early 70's) we used to go up there. Rattlesnakes in the storefront windows. We'd sit on the high curb in front of the store and drink a cold Coca-Cola from the machine outside the store.

I've still got a 'Long Range' call somewhere among my stuff. It's older than a lot of people reading this probably. Called many a Gray Fox and Coyote with it.

Good 'Ol Days.

This is the same jackrabbit that you are speaking of. He is truly a "legend" as we have hauled him hundreds of miles and many, many hunts. Several years ago, Steve and I captured video of a big tom getting on Jack. It was aired on CARNIVORE.
Thanks and Adios,

We all complained for about a week or so about daylight saving time. I am no longer complaining. Gives you much more daylight to to take the beautiful photos.

Pecos captured some really great bobcat images that I am hesitant to post and he is considering publishing a book of just bobcat photos. I am trying to push him to do it and doing my best to help him gather more photos.

We called three cats on this hunt and had over 30 minutes of video of them. Ultrasonics has sure made it easier to keep a cat entertained...

The more I study this photo, the more I am thinking that this is one of, if not the greatest photo of a called in predator that I have seen. For some reason, the Rogue is giving us more "lucky" photos and videos...

We rolled over 16 minutes of video of her and let her walk off. I made a mistake and set Jack upon a mowed off mesquite bush. He was sitting too high and a little bit intimidating.
The next morning, we had one come in and smell of Jack three different times.
A third cat was coming to Jack when something crashed in the brush nearby. I am not sure if it was a deer or a hog but the cat was uneasy from then on. She did circle Jack and SteveO got video of her as she got in a ditch before seeing him move the camera.

Gary, what's the status of your calls?

Re: Peek A Boo - 05/04/21 08:36 PM

We have placed an order for 3,000 units but semi-conductors are in short supply. Can't give you an exact date but I am guessing a couple of months. We have a waiting list of approximately 7,500 folks so not everyone will be able to get one of the first shipments.
Thanks so much for your patience!
