Buckshot time! (Graphic pic) - 03/26/21 03:47 AM
Went out to the ranch Sunday and the hogs had been doing yard work. Hooked up the chain harrow behind the 4-wheeler and made rounds to smooth the destruction out a little bit. Went back out Tuesday and they had been at it again.
Dragged again, not happy about it at all. Went back out Wednesday and they hit it again Tuesday night.
So that was it. Wednesday night I was in the house with no lights on, pacing from window to window checking the yard. The 6.8 with the thermal on one chair ready, 12 gauge pump loaded with buckshot on another. Of course, no hogs were showing. So I sit down on the couch about 9:15 and wake up around 10:30. Stumble to the door and peek out and there’s 3 of the bas$&rds right off the front porch about 10 yards. Grab the shotgun and ease the door open a bit and slide the barrel out. There was a very slight bit of moonlight so I could see them and I could sort of see the shotgun bead. I picked the 2 closest together ones and got close and blam! I kicked the door open like Rambo and threw two more rounds of buckshot at the 2 hauling it towards the fence and then they’re gone.
Went and grabbed the thermal and scanned the pasture and saw one piled up 100 yards down towards the tank. Then I went to bed.
When I went out this evening there were 2 buzzards down on him and when I got to him with the 4 wheeler he was pretty cleaned out. The skin did show a pretty good grouping of the buckshot. And he still ran 100+ yards with 3 rounds to the ribs. You can see the pellet holes pretty well.
Back after them tomorrow night- don’t need their kind of help with the lawn.
