What kind of bird is this little guy. It was the size of the dove no larger.

Well it was 25 degrees and that little $hit was walking down the middle of the creek. 🤣
It was definitely a water bird with a beak like a duck.

It's got the size and coloration of a Wilsons Snipe but not the bill so I'm going to say immature Sora.

Yep, without seeing it in person, I would call it a rail. Probably a Sora Rail. Usually I only see them in N TX during the September season. But I have flushed one now and then while Snipe hunting so some do stick around. It can be hard to get them to fly and when they do they fly like grasshoppers then disappear in the weeds. Neat little birds. They can flatten their chest and run though the thickest of marsh grass and weeds. Thus the phrase "skinny as a rail".
