January centex wood duck - 01/27/21 06:57 PM
I've shot plenty of wood ducks in my lifetime and it just never gets old. Growing up I learned to hunt by sneaking backwater sloughs of the Mississippi river looking for wood ducks, rabbits and woodcock. Fast forward 30 years and I am still at it, just a bit further south. My creek bottoms have had a decent amount of water lately and it brought in the woodies. I have never seen them this late in the season on my place. I grabbed the old 870 and went sneaking around the creek banks. I was able to jump shoot a nice pair and left the rest alone. I am thinking this guy is destined for the mantle, the hen for the roaster. I used to live and breath duck hunting but those days are past me now. This was my only duck action this season, and I am fine with that. Definitely worth the duck stamp.
