Texas Weather Strikes Again - 01/12/21 05:26 PM
We got to the ranch Friday around 5:30. It was overcast and still, quintessential hunting weather. By 9:30 the clouds began to thin out, and by 10:00 they had completely peeled back and gave us a view of some incredible stars:
By Saturday morning the clouds had returned, frost covered the ground, and a thick layer of fog was suspended up on the hills. The deer movement was excellent early but largely done by 8:30. I did find a deer to add to the keep an eye on for the next year or 2:
The clouds broke again, and it warmed a bit Saturday afternoon. Covey picked up her first ducks of the year in a nice little mid-day wigeon shoot:
Saturday night was one of the darkest nights I've ever witnessed out at the ranch as the low clouds built up, keeping any ambient light at bay. A great night for a steak, a few glasses of wine, and an early bed time; however, I wasn't prepared for what I would wake up to:
