Great pic!
When I was in high school and quail were everywhere we’d drive around on the few snow days we got in west Texas and kill quail with a 22. When you find a covey bushed up in the snow you can make a little noise and one will run out from the covey. Head shoot him and another will come out to see what’s going on with the flopping. You can pop him and another will follow. As long as We didn’t shoot into the bunched covey they wouldn’t flush. It was easy to get a mess of bird driving around drinking cold beer. I miss the days of 50 bird blue quail coveys. Quail were always on the menu on a snow day.
About 25 years ago I had some customers deer hunting on a place we'd leased and screwed up dropping them off. I ended up stuck in between and didn't want to mess up their hunt so i just drove around in an area away from them. As I was opening a gate a covey of Blues walked out about 20 yards away and I ended up getting 7 of them with a 22 pistol, pretty much just like you described, As soon as one stated flopping another would run over and check it out.
