Trans Pecos snow

Trans Pecos snow - 12/20/20 08:22 PM

Was hunting mule deer on our lease when we got a rare snowfall during the season. All I had was my cell phone so the pics are not that great. The deer were held up in thick cover and had to drive on top of them to even get them to stand up. Did see a few bucks that day but only one was decent...4 yr old looking 5x5. Rest were younger. We expected the deer to be bedded till it stopped snowing and it was as expected.
Progression of the snow that morning starting at 7:40 till 10:30 on Dec. 5th. It snowed up to 3" on about 2/3's of the ranch and rest just got sleet/rain. Low as 33 that morning and high was 37. Was really my first time to hunt mule deer in a Texas snow so it was different.

That is awesome. By the way I am in Spearfish, South Dakota and it is 56 degrees and nothing on the ground. Looking up in the black hills from where I am at I don’t even see any in the hills.

How backward is this?

I love snow out there. We have an oil painting from a painter in the 70’s in Odessa Brown Jarrett. My mom wanted a painting of a yucca in the snow. He painted it for her. My sister has it.

Snow out there brings back many memories....

Wonderful pictures. We had snow during the season one year, in Val Verde county, back when I was guiding. We literally did not see a white tail deer for 2 and a half days, of hard hunting.

Awesome.
When we hunted at Shamrock we got snow pretty often and when we did you might as well sleep in the next morning. Deer wouldn't move until it melted off.

I’ve been in a lot of snow falls in many states. It’s hard to beat a good West Texas Snow fall. It’s crazy how the greasewood starts greening up after it.

I’ve got a new attachment device, I’d place those bets for atleast over a year. Last one made it 4

Yeah, like that's always been the issue. I guess if it actually works, we might see you as a spokesman, "I am BoBo the Clown and I approve this message."
