First deer, first buck and first 10 pt!! - 12/14/20 02:08 AM
Took my kids hunting this weekend and my son has been determined to shoot his first deer all season. We don’t see many does and so far the bucks we have seen are either too small or too far away.
We had only seen a small 6 and young spike all afternoon and he was starting to give up, was almost asleep like his sister when a nice buck walked out. I alerted him, woke up sister helped get her headphones on and started telling him to slow his breathing and wait for a good opportunity to shoot.
Within a minute or two sister was settled, I had binos on the buck and he was positioned (standing) with his thumb on the safety. He told me his legs were shaking so I reminded him to breath easy, exhale and slowly squeeze the trigger, repeated that another couple of times and after I said “slow squeeze,” he fired the shot.
I saw it hit just being the shoulder, the deer jumped, turned 180° and ran toward the trees. It was 5:45 so we waited until 6 to get out of the stand then my nephew met us at the feeder and we started searching. No blood so we fanned out and started walking. Within 50 yards, less than 5 minute search, we saw a white belly and horns sticking up. Needless to say, we were all super excited! He put a great shot in this buck, was able to control his emotions and got the job done! I’m so proud of him and so glad little sister was there with us. Lifelong memory created this weekend!
The buck had a split G3 and extra point on the right side.
