LF Menard Buck - 10/05/20 02:20 PM

[Linked Image]
Buck taken in Menard Saturday morning. This is the buck that I mentioned previously and since it was posted on facebook, I feel that I can repost. Buck killed by Kurt Bryan with a crossbow on a low fence Menard County ranch, no aggressive feeding program. I think that this shows the good winter and spring that we had along with allowing the bucks to get a little age.
Buck is quite a bit larger than it appears as I snapped this shot on my phone shortly after recovery. No set up shot and Kurt is a big boy, I am guessing he weighs over 250. I did not have a tape but guessing the buck scores 155+ for a main frame 8 point.
Adios,
gary

scratch ( not a science yet, working on it... )
Example : back in the day, @ 5' 7" with 28" waist...
5× 20 = 100 + 7 + 28 = 135 . 5# off my weight of 140...
@ 60 5' 7" with 31" wast.
5×30=150 + 7+31= 188#'s cheers pretty close using tape method..
Yet scale tis way more accurate...
& judging rack size without tape, scratch A-B cup, somewere in that range.
considering its LF

Maybe this will give you a better look at main beams which were over 24" and how he carried his mass really well.
Hoping everyone has a safe and great season!

No doubt!!!

Easily mid to upper 40s as an 8 plus the small G4s and kicker.
STUD!!

Re: LF Menard Buck - 10/05/20 08:45 PM

I rough scored him at an even 150 on the 8 point frame before adding other extras. One 4th was an inch in length, other was not scoreable. He also had a boost on his brows one was 7 and the other 8 which you really can't see in the photos. I moved to Menard County in December of 1985 and when I saw this buck nearly about two months ago, I posted that I thought that I had seen the largest framed buck I had ever seen in Menard County not under HF. It is good to see that at age 67, my vision on a buck running at 125 yards is still pretty good.
Now my hunters on this ranch are sure that they have seen a couple bigger...hope they have.
Adios.

Well, the length on the brow tines explains it for me because I was only giving him 9" for both and coming up mid 40s as an 8!

Great buck and I hope your hunters now see what can be grown and set up a bunch of 600lb protein feeders!

Re: LF Menard Buck - 10/11/20 12:34 PM

He looked good in velvet too this summer. He also added about 10" in tine length, 6-8" in mass, and the extra kickers from last year. I've had countless opportunities to take him with my bow for a couple years now. Congrats to Kurt, he's a hell of a buck.

Re: LF Menard Buck - 10/12/20 01:47 AM

What a great deer. We used to hunt the "figure 3" ranch, just west of Menard. Tons of deer, Turkey, swimming in the San Saba. Cheeseburgers at Pete's trading post near the fort. Great times. I traded Pete a 12' Sears game Fisher fiberglass boat that we hauled down from Dallas for two cheeseburgers and a 6- pack of beer. Seems we slammed into rocks in the river and busted the hull. I didn't feel like hauling it back home. I heard Pete died a few years ago. A little off topic, but that's what memories are for.
