Sure looks like a longtail to me. I moved to Gatesville in 1975 and spent time on Cowhouse Creek and Ft. Hood hunting with hounds. I was also all over the county as I was making farm and ranch loans for the Federal Land Bank before Capital Farm Credit. If there was a lion in the area, I never saw any solid evidence to verify it. Though the land has been fragmented since those days, I have been preaching that there are more lions in Texas than ever in my lifetime and I think that this is a little proof of that.
Adios,
Gary
Up until the 80’s there were still coon hunters and people with pack hounds. By the 90’s I can’t recall anyone around here that still wolf hunted. That was 30 years ago. I went wolf/ coyote hunting with a gentleman named Ralph Bridges from Denton in the early 80’s and the was probably the last of the old timers that owned a pack of hounds? Times were simpler and good entertainment was a campfire, pot of coffee and Rolling bawl mouthed bitch.
