Beautiful morning in the blind..... - 09/12/20 12:40 PM
Went out Friday morning to enjoy the cooler morning temps to see what was moving. About 50% of the bucks are now out of velvet and starting spar a bit. The ones that have shed the velvet are in great shape and slicked off in their fall coats.
One buck was in full velvet the evening before and his antlers were blood red when he came in at daylight the next morning.
Then less than 12 hours later he looked like this. He still had a few small shreds of velvet hanging off his bases that kept him irritated. He was constantly shaking his heading and could not stay still very long. He worked over some bitterweeds in front of the pen and then a Live Oak trying to get those last shreds of velvet off.
