Had this happen to a mature 8 point this year .

I've had one do that with both g3's and lost both. Shame, he's a good looking buck.

I had that happen to a mature wide 8 last year who was definite target list but it was much later in velvet. Good news that buck survived season from after season pics but haven't seen him yet this late summer.

If you take him this year look for a evidence of some sort of injury on his right side.

I had one like that a few years ago. He broke it off right after he shed his velvet.
