Post up your Trophy wall

Post up your Trophy wall - 05/09/20 01:38 AM

Since my search for the old thread has failed, help me prove to my wife that I'm not crazy for wanting to have a whole wall of mounts. Post up photos of your walls...especially if you have a ton of mounts. I'm talking to you stxranchman.

Re: Post up your Trophy wall - 05/10/20 10:20 PM

Some great pics! I have my trophies spread out through the house and my barn man cave -

A few years back I went to a guys house - it was not a fancy or big house but every wall in every room had heads hanging. His KITCHEN WALLS had heads mounted all the way around! That is one tolerant wife right there!

Re: Post up your Trophy wall - 05/11/20 12:28 AM

I've put literally tons of meat in my freezer over the years but not that many "trophies." I have taken a few though that have made it to the wall:

And the one and only animal taken on a paid hunt and my only Texas mount:

To all the other posters - some beautiful looking mounts - nice work.

Lots of very impressive displays but personally I don't get excited over all the Africa stuff. A couple good Whitetails and the memories that likely go with them is more my style. We used to always mount them on wood plaques like Hud but everyones getting away from that it seems. Hud, ones hanging higher than the other but im sure you know that. I guess ill try to dig out a pic of mine.

Re: Post up your Trophy wall - 05/11/20 04:34 PM

I once took a photo of 20 shoulder mounts taken from our lease. Kind of against a barn wall with 10 on top and 10 on bottom. It took two days to align them like I liked. Couldn't decide whether to line up the bottom of brisket or top of horns or what. Some were sneaks and others very upright and all in between. I finally lined up the top of their heads. That way the taller racked deer would appear taller etc. I can see in a home with other décor and multiple species you would probably want things offset, but for this photo it worked.

Re: Post up your Trophy wall - 05/12/20 11:37 AM

I could not help but notice what I perceive to be a shed horn from the prior year on TLK's beautiful WT pedestal mount. I was fortunate to find a single shed from each of the previous two years on this one. No doubt the same deer.

tlk, ill let you help me put them up if your wife redecorates my house. Is the WT on the pedestal the one you showed me before?

Re: Post up your Trophy wall - 05/12/20 02:23 PM

Yes that is the 201 Book deer - the shed hanging on him is what we found the year before he was taken - he was a 175 inch 9 point that year and added 26 inches in one year during a severe drought

Interesting, mine was estimated at a flat 150 and added slightly over 26 inches in one year also. Had the kicker two seasons before, then it went away and then he had it again.

As for kickers coming and going Ill tell a tlk story. He said hes seen drops and double drops come and go and come again. I know what kind of place tlk runs so I believed him. My comment was that any place that sits back and watches drops come and go and come back again is one real special place. Most places the first time you see a drop you see a drop dead buck. When you manage a place right and start passing up big bucks you can surely see some interesting stuff. On our place two years ago we had a buck we called Kickers and then last year he lost em all and we renamed him Kickerless. He was old enough and big enough so he got killed.

The middle picture is a buck with double drops - we aged him at 5 years old so we let him walk. Took him the next season - scored 200 inches. First and third picture are of him. All low fence - [Linked Image]
