In the 1960's my brother and me would catch a few dozen each time we visited my uncle who lived in Kenedy TX in Karnes County. They were such cool animals!

That lasted into the 90s. Grew up in Odessa and saw them all the time.

Saw one in Glen rose area about 15 years ago. It was hanging out near a harvester ant mound. They're gone now, I guess. Used to catch them in Oak cliff near the alley where we lived. That was back in the 60s. Now I only see them in west Texas. Thanks for sharing. As a side note, has anyone made them do a headstand? We'd put them on their back and rub their tummy until they fell asleep, then you can make them do a headstand. Pretty funny to see.

I carried one in my pocket for most of my growing up. The old folks always told us "they'll spit blood in your eyes!". Never witnessed that. They were better than a video game!!
